I would never speak to him again! thas how I feel about it but let it lie now.

I had a friend who WAS also looking at buying in the North. I warned him and we fell out over this. He refused to listen to me but I am pleased to say he hasn't gone ahead - the reason he gave me was a load of bull and would never admit I was right and he was wrong.

Regards

I guess this thread would have got here at some point......... but lets say, in a time in the future, the TRNC no longer exists...and the North is handed back........quite how will the land/houses be got back from the people that have bought them regardless of their nationality. Remember it's not only Brits that buy there??????

And what about those that lost homes and land in the South and wanted it back? Just how is Cyprus as a country going to deal with the issue outlined above?

I am surprised we have not had any answers to my question. I think it would help people understand more about the problem and the obviously thorny issues it raises when Cyprus is no longer a divided land as (from an outsiders point of view) land/property sale/theft is the major talking point.

I have raised this question many times and still haven't received a direct answer, surely there must be many places in the South that GCs and ex-pats are living on TC owned land/property.
What will happen if and when unification does come into being?
Regarding the horror stories about rogue developers in the North and as I'm only intending to move to the South I've not had much to do with goings on in the North, what I have heard and witnessed are plenty of horror stories about deveopers in the South.
So the obvious question that I'm asking is about the possibility of a TC knocking on my door one day and demanding that I get off his land.

Hi Southerner

It is impossible to buy TC land in RoC, it is administered by a Government body and Land Registry would certainly not pass Title to someone else. I doubt if any ex-pats live on TC land; it was 'loaned' to Cypriots displaced from the North following the Invasion/Peace Operation. As no doubt someone will point out, some now lies under Larnaca Airport and the Motorway.

But you are right, final resolution of the practicalities will be very difficult.

A real poser indeed. Last year when I crossed over to the south, visiting our property in our village, the same thing occured to me - how do you sort this mess out. Refugees from Yialousa were in our family home. We are leaving this problem to the politicians and what have they done to date? Zilch. As days go by, its seems to be 'the 'concrete is setting harder'. Before anybody asks, no I do not live in property in the north, I am in the UK. What hope for any refugee returning? Nil I'd say.

What we really need here is for a GC from the north who now lives on loaned property/land to come forward and put it as they see it.
