Moving to Cyprus

Postby TOODS » Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:51 pm

Hello Everyone. I was hoping somebody would be able to give me a bit of help. I'm looking to move my family to Cyprus in next 6 months and I was thinking of a long let in the Paphos area. It would need to have a school nearby for our 9 yr old son and also in an area of an ex-pat community. Any suggestions of areas around Paphos would be a great help.

This has been asked many, many, many times before. Try the search facility along the top of the screen.

On another note, the fact you have asked about areas with an ex-pat community proves a point made in an earlier thread. Why move to a foreign country if you are planning to live in such a place surrounded by other Brits?? Just a question....

Hi Twinkle

...and many Cypriots moving to the UK choose to live in areas of North London, inhabited by many other Cypriots. It is true of most communities - people feel comfortable with the familiar.

I moved here because, I prefer Cyprus to my country of birth, but i would have been fooling myself if I thought I could assimilate totally in a sleepy village, for instance. Most people choose a compromise; the best of Cyprus yet retaining some of their old culture and lifestyle - I canot pretend I am a pseudo-Cypriot.

Calm down you Mad Dog...it was just a question as I stated in my thread. I just wondered why Brits stuck together. I am not Brit bashing. Both parents British, Mum is UK/Irish. Having been born in London and lived there for over 30 years and i am a British Citizen, I just wanted to know why you would move to a foreign country to be with the people you want to leave behind.

As for answering Toods question. This has been answered before. I am all to willing to help people out with requests and info. I've been a memebr for over a year, but if it has all be done before, the forum gets rather boring. Same threads, same arguements, same bickering. Just calm down.....It's only MOnday!!!!!

Paphos is the most beautiful city in Cyprus in my opinion and has a family environment and not too crowded. Paphos definitely will offer you a psychologist service  ...you can relax and enjoy the nature which is amazing.

By the way...do you want a local school or an English speaking school for your child?

I am not familiar with the ex-pats areas but I guess some other member will be able to help with that.

Twinkle
it's probably not so much the "people they want to leave behind" but the way of life there. Clive

Quite right. At least you know moving here (or any other foreign country) you'll be a second class citizen rather than being one in your own Country.
