If we do not acknowledge you then you do not exist, right.

Maybe you are a figment of your own imagination, again living in a twilight zone, in another dimension. :D

As Descartes said, "I think, therefore I exist".

But the Turks do not think, therefore, by inference, they do not exist! :P

Therefore Descartes was an ASS! That was ancient Greek Logic anyway. It doesnt work.

If people are sincere in accepting TCs as co-owner, co-occupier Cypriots on the island (as reiterated buy many GCs in this forum), and are seeking a federal solution that would justify a single Republic - then I do not see how they can now say "GCs have the the divine right and TCs have no rights in the natural resources existing in the waters around the island". If that is the case, I would say FUCK any agreements or a Federation and lets stop all this shit-chat about finding a solution, for there will be none with all this hypocrisy going on!

yeah i agree with you lets start immediately with a STOP of all sales of land to foreigners...lets stop exploitation of lands to foreigners...lets start recognising the original deeds...what do you think?...this will go a long way while seeking a federal solution that would justify a single Republic...sounds like a good initiative to me...i don't know about you but am all for it...and thats the sad truth...

ps...well if thats not the case then I am afraid, you have to refer to the highlighed part of your post...with the exception, things will stay the same for one and progress further for the other...

Anyone buying property in North Cyprus nowadays seeks proof that the land/house belongs to TC and not on eleft behind by a GC refugee.

Even the TCs buying flats and houses prefer original Turkish owned ones - I have no problem with your proposal! When I bought a flat few years back, I could have bought one cheaper built on GC land but paid more and bought one form a construction on a TC land. Many TCs feel the same on this subject.

Recognising the original deeds would be great - but as of 1963 - that would include property left behind in some 100+ Turkish villages that were subsequently evacuated! I also think any current proposals for a solution already caters for them either in the form of returning the property to the original owner or compensating them financially. RoC had also used and built on TC land in the South and they are beginning to understand why the latter should be incorporated in any future agreement.

QUOTE BigOz:

"TCs are co-occupants owners of the island and were/are recognised as equal political partners by the original RoC constitution, by the UN and the EU - albeit not as a separate TRNC. That being the case, as current protector of TC rights in the region, Turkey does have the "audacity" and the balls to make a point! Why don't the RoC government make a declaration and say "x% of revenue generated from the foreign drilling companies in the area will be handed over to TCs as their share!". Then Turkey will have no excuse to interfere with anything! "
Sharp intake of breath>.........Are you suggesting Turkey kidnapped the TCs from the RoC, and now it is holding them to ransom ????.

Your statement sounds like a ransom demand.

The RoC does not do deals with terrorists no matter their blackmailing threats and tantrums.

And allow me to suggest a figure for " X "

Yes, you can guess, a big fat zero.

Regardless of the stupid threats of Turkey, where are these oil fields? Are they in International waters or Cyprus territorial waters. Is there a continental shelf of some sorts involved? Anyone with quick answers?
Turkey can only bluff, fear not!

I have to agree with VP on this subject.

If you're playing the trnc card, asking for recognition and declaring your own state then you should have no say on this.

Halil what do you think he means by for the benefit of all people in the region"? Cyprus Oil and Gas should benefit Lebanese, Israelis, Syrians Greeks and Turks?

On another note I am glad that the he has said there is a need for a solution now. It can't be that simple but it sounds a lot like " If you boys are gonna dig for gold, we're comin' as well."

I would have thought that people in the region would be TCs, who would clearly be denied any benefit under the ongoing negotiations to find a solution.

TCs are co-occupants owners of the island and were/are recognised as equal political partners by the original RoC constitution, by the UN and the EU - albeit not as a separate TRNC. Remember this is not something GCs are producing or RoC is manufacturing - it is a natural resource belonging to the island and hence to all its inhabitants!

For 33 years GCs as the recognised RoC members in the area have benefited from all the international trade, economic aids, tourism etc. Now they want to carry on as a single beneficiary with an important revenue from oil (if it exists) by ignoring the co-occupants of the island. I do not think anyone asked TCs what they think.

Of cource the TCs are also citizens of the RoC (or Cyprus) but, what does co-occupiers and /or co-owners of Cyprus means?

Hand an x% to whom? Is the RoC going to also hand each and every GC and X% of whatever revenues are made from oil? I suppose not!

They smell business and they are covering themselves by declaring they are "co-everything".

But no one is playing the TRNC card DT are they? TRNC was created in 1983 as a last resort for recognition, after years of fruitless negotiations between you know who! I always believe it was a wake up call to GC side, rather than any realistic belief that it was going to be recognised by anyone. Nevertheless, it exists today - albeit unrecognised - but it has never been used as a card in any negotiation towards a Cyprus settlement.

What I personally think is, its very existence as a title may encourage GCs to find a solution sooner rather than later, realising that if a solution is not found then there is the danger TRNC might be recognised. If I am not mistaken, this has been reflected in the GC media as well on some occasions.
