`Cyprus settlement to contribute to stability`
Nicosia, Aug 04: Sergey Mironov, chairman of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation has said in a letter to the Cypriot House of Representatives president Demetris Christofias that the solution of the Cyprus problem, which will take into consideration the interests of all Cypriots, will contribute to the level of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to a House press release, Mironov noted in his letter that "the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is closely following the situation regarding the Cyprus problem."

"We are convinced that a just and comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem can only be achieved on the basis of the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the faithful implementation of the generally accepted rules and principles of international law," he said.

He added that the Russian Federation's support to the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus was well known.

"We believe that a political settlement on the island, which will take into consideration the interests of all Cypriots, will contribute to increasing the level of security and stability in the eastern Mediterranean," Mironov pointed out.

Mironov also supports the strengthening of the traditionally close ties between Russia and Cyprus and the continuous development of relations between the two Parliaments.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

All positive for the "RoC" but still it says that there is to be a settlement. Why are they not saying that the TRNC/KKTC should be dissolved and the "RoC" rein supreme?????I wonder why. Humanist take note:
