Humanist. I would have liked your smile to be a genuine one and not a sneer. My personal view - for what its worth - is for a solution, which will safeguard the rights and safety of TCs. Personally I do not believe in Partition, but only as a last resort, and only when all else fails. Unification is one option, but I do not see that happenng. A BBF looks like a more promising option which I feel that it will have difficulties with our GC friends. I am realistic enough to see that as time goes by our options are decreasing, sadly. Leaving no room for maneuvering. This I will put the blame on leaders of both sides. As for re: Hellenism is only in response to some other forum members comments. I realise that the "Turkification" of the North is unacceptible to the GCs as is the talk of Hellenism is to the TCs. What can be done about it? I know it is easy to say lets all be "Cypriots" and I am one, and proud of it.

DA thnx, I do appreciate your honesty and yes a genuine smile would have been better. My apologies on that one. Hey as far as Turkification vs Helenism, I cannot stand either. Both evisl that small minds need to feed on. Cyprus is what it is because of the richness of both linguistic groups and I believe that is the only difference amongst Cypriots. I believe that if we looked closer the similiarities would outway the difference. What can be done about it? Lots on an individual and communal level.
RoC scraps anthem immediately, Papadopoulos let it go man. It's time for a change Greek flags/ Turkish flags come down. Both communities and this is where the individual come into play change your attitude and teach your young to be proud Cypriots. It is easy to say it and not very much more difficult to practice it. Today at work a woman asked me where am from I said Enmore (my suburb) shae said you background I said from Cyprus. another woman said Greek or Turkish I said Cyprus, when she pressed a little more I replied I am from Cyprus and I speak Greek. She then said her fiance' is Turkish. When I left I said to her please say hello to your partner from another Cypriot, there are not many of us. She smiled. If we all did this every day and people let go of the notion that we are either one or the other slowly perceptions will change.
As far as you putting blame on both leaders go right ahead am sick and tired of laying blame on them on my own. Papadopoulos has proven through his stuborness that he is not able to pull the show together he had 5 years and all he has done is refuse to accept Talat. Now taliking about sulking Talat is refusing to meet with Papadopoulos, and you know if this was a game of cards I'd say good on Talat for refusing, but it is not. People's lives are at stake here. Perhaps some Turkish speakers will say we are standing for what we believe, well that is fine if you are a high income earner and have the option of educting your kid in Britain, but what if your not?
Perhaps the future President of Cyprus can start dealing with Talat and fuck Turkey off. Perhaps the next president and I have doubts if it is going to be Papadopoulos will invite Turkish speaking Cypriots to join the Government to represent Turkish speaking Cypriots living in the Republic. I believe there is a woman politician who speaks Turkish one is not enough.
Perhaps am too idealistic or lived in a multicultural community with Turkish neighbours and I see them as human beings but going back 33 years HAS Not gotten anyhere and It will not get us anywhere.
Perhaps it is up to Cypriots abroad to join together (those who wish of course bye bye to Zan I guess) write petitions to both sides of the fence seeking peace and unification and leave it up to the individual community to critisize their own representatives.
Believe it or not it sadens me to know that part of my people (and I know many of you would say your the enemy and that is fine if tht is your view) are missing out on the richess shared by the RoC. At the same time I can appreciate that is people's choice for one or another reason..
