Makarios legacy

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

You are right there Humanist. It was not out of choice but unfortunately the TCs were forced into the corner by the events of '63 and that is what happens. It would not have been my first choice. My first choice was Cyprus for Cypriots, but look at the mess you made. You wanted your Enosis the TCs said OXI and you lost part of the Island. Obviously the TC's do not want your kind of Hellenism in Cyprus. If you do you can have it in the south. If you give Hellenism up, maybe there is some hope for those who want Cyprus for the Cypriots.

My thoughts exactly deniz!

GCs dont believe that though. Apparently we wanted to partition Cyprus, it was our "dream"

Because we fought back they're under the impression that we were as bad as them

Which kinda explains why the hardliners are really trying to convince [b]themselves[/b] that we really wanted partition from the get go, because if we didnt then maybe, just [b]maybe[/b] we did it because [b]we had to[/b]....but I'm sure the "superior" GCs know better [/quote]

T_C, GCs demanded their [b]legitimate[/b] right for union with Greece and [b]you[/b] turned against us for this. I guess everything was fine when the Turks ruled Cyprus against the will of the great majority of Cypriots, but when Cypriots wanted to decide the destiny of their own island that was not ok?

That inter communal conflict started in the 50s, when TCs colaborated with the colonialists and attacked the Greek Cypriots, simply because they didn't agree with our legitimate demand for finally liberating our island and uniting it with the rest of the Greek state.

Here I gave two links to a BBC documentary. Watch the part 2 at around 12min 30 sec, to see how the inter communal conflict started.

And if you are talking about 1963, which was the second part of the inter-communal conflict, here is how it started:

[quote]
On 21 December 1963, an angry Turkish-Cypriot crowd surrounded an armed and nervous Greek-Cypriot police patrol in Nicosia. Accounts of the confrontation differ between the Cypriot communities. On one point, however, they agree; two Turk-Cypriot civilians and one Greek-Cypriot policeman were shot dead. This incident marked a major crisis in the Cypriot inter-communal conflict. The struggle developed into one of overt violence. The initiative fell from the hands of the politicians and was taken up by the communal paramilitary forces.
[/quote]
http://www.cyprus-conflict.net/www.cypr ... p%203.html

Nobody denies that GCs committed crimes during that conflict, but to blame exclusively the GCs for it is outrageous and has nothing to do with the truth. And nobody denies that some GCs continued to support enosis after 1960, but to claim that TCs stoped supporting partition is the biggest lie ever. TCs supported partition since before the 50s and they continue to do so today, so cut the lies please and face the truth.

The TCs are trying to blame the inter-communal conflict exclusively on us in order to excuse yet more crimes and illegalities against us. They simply do not want to accept their share of blame for that conflict, since in that case they would be throwing away their only excuse for continuing with crimes and illegalities against us.[/quote]

My dear Piratis, did I mention strife. You still try to misread everything I write. I mentioned "events". I did not mention the Tahtakala events as we all agree to disagree on the truth there. I was referring to events within the Goverment and the Cyprus Constitution and I did not put any blame on anyone so as not to start thr "old grammaphone" off again. Well , I failed in that because it does not take much to switch you on.

Piratis, by the way, I do not need to see the footages you post. They would have been sanitised by your press office probably. I am very aware of what happened there at the time and the day after. I have my own personal experiences of events which I am sure you would love to read.

deniz, I was replying to the post by T_C and not yours. However when you say that "TCs were forced into the corner by the events of '63", aren't you blaming the GCs exclusively for those events?
Maybe your personal choice was not partition, just like the personal choice of many GCs at the time was not enosis. However partition was the choice of your leaders and Turkey, and they (along with their GC counterparts) are equally responsible for the events of 63.

By the way, can you turn on "bbcode" in your posts? It is very hard to read them when you quote others without it.

No Piratis! No TC campaigned for or asked for partition after the Republic was declared - I dare anyone to give me a quote to the contrary for the period 1960-1963! ENOSIS continued to be the choice of your leaders and Greece from day one of RoC! They have full responsibility for the events of 1963. I have quoted supporting sources to that effect many times (including your own leaders confessions) - I'll quote them again if you like... (not that I believe they will change your mind). :D

Big Oz. Not sure if this is the quote you are asking for:

"In essence, there was a fundamental belief on the part of the Turkish Cypriots in the eventual intervention of Turkey to establish the partition of Cyprus. This belief underpinned their unco-operative attitude towards the Greek Cypriots and, not surprisingly, created the cycle of mistrust amongst Turkish Cypriots which culminated in the crisis of 1963. Indeed, one of the starkest indications of the Turkish Cypriot mistrust were the brutal political murders of Ayhan Hikmet and Ahmet Gurkhan in 1962 by TMT. Both Hikmet and Gurkhan were publishers who advocated closer association and co-operation between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. TMT was again in action to ensure that the genuine voice of the Turkish Cypriots was silenced, and this applied not only to journalists and publishers, but to many political activists and ordinary people too."

Can get sources if it fulfills requirements....but I must go and give the dog a walk now.

....In case you didn't know TMT was the paramilitary group set up by Turkey with an extreme pro-partition agenda in the late '50s and was responsible for subversion and violence to de-stabilise the RoC leading up to the events of 1963.

Enjoy.........bye, dog desperate for walk!

It takes two to tango chimera. The aim of TMT was to partition the island but the stupid actions of our leaders at the time only helped TMT achieve its objectives. In fact, our nationalists did everything in their power to throw the masses of good meaning Turkish Cypriots into the warm embrace of TMT and the taksim cause. We should have known better. Simply we did not have the visionary leaders.

Thanks for the info Chimera, but it has passed its "sell by" date! I think everyone in this forum by now is well acquinted with the history and purposes of both EOKA nd TMT. There had been hundreds of enlightening posts on the subject prior to you joining the forum. Thanks for the effort anyway, but I would appreciate it even more if you could show sources for your future quotes.

I am still awaiting for a quote from an official source, showing TCs wanted or pressed for partition during 1960-1963! I can give you quotes on GC leadership's chantings for Enosis though... I'm off for the day, so perhaps we can continue tomorrow sometime! :D
