Wow, I never expected to see this sort of reaction. What's interesting is that no one actually commented on the offensive post (http://stravara.blogspot.com/2007/08/zei-zh.html). I e-mailed these bloggers and all I got was a reply saying: "leave a comment or leave us alone". Well, no I'm not going to waste my time with commenting on what I still insist is insulting.

But why do you guys simply take advantage of posts in this forum to just insult each other. Both sides of the argument have used inaccurate quotes and notions, not to mention that maybe some avatars used are a bit inappropriate. Within my family there were disagreements over the Annan plan. We argued and discussed. Once the results were in that was that. End of story.

But anyway, there are two points I would like to raise:

1. Whether or not Makarios III was liked or not, you must admit that it was very difficult coping with the sort of isolation and suspicion which he had to endure. I also don't agree with the theory that he tried to annex Cyprus to Greece. I think some people may forget what happened on July 15th 1974.

2. Isn't the presidential election a great opportunity for Turkish Cypriots to vote? Isn't it better to at least try and get heard and make a difference instead of doing what all Cypriots do and passively waut for a solution to be handed to them.

I must say, though, that it certainly gets interesting around here and I'm glad to have found this forum.

Hi Mike, welcome to Cyprus forum. The reactions go everywhere and the insults keep coming like you wouldn't believe. Frankly if this is the future of Cyprus I am disgusted. You may choose toparticipate or be adult enough not to throw back the insults.

Basically what I have found on this forum in general, there are people who speak Turkish/ Greek and are genuine about humanity and unification of our country.

Then there are racists who discriminate on the basis of anothers language and do not want Cyprus to Unify. This is based on fear and racism and for some personal gain.

On both sides there are people who cannot admit that "their side" has had a negative involvement in the process leading to Cyprus 2007. The turkish Cyptiots by far with the exception of two to three people will never accept any responsibility for their leadership or Turkey. I choose to ignore these people because we just go around in circles.

Was Makarios liked? Well the Turkish speaking Cypp's aparently hated him. Some Greek speaking Cypriots did not particularly like him to others he is a hero. Personally I believe the man has been dead for 30 od years it is irelevant and yes as a politician he probably could have done things differently. We don't know what his personal beliefs were so we cannot decifer either way. He is dead end of story. We have an opportunity to change our future.

However Cyriots are not mature enough to create their own identity and therefore want to identify as Turkish/ Greek. I sincerely do not understand that thinking process. When we have an independent country and we cannot honour it as a place where all Cypriots can live together in peace as they had done many years before the questionable period of the 60's.

Some of the Turkish speaking Cypriots who are filled with hate will raise Makarios involvement over and over again to stir away from the fact that Turkey whom they believe to be their saviour is actually their oppressor, and will go to any legth to blame Greek speaking Cypriots and the RoC. Thus 33 years of oppression and lower socio econmic disadvantaged. The funny thing is that they cannot see that this exists out of their own choice and the fail to see that it is their leaderships policies that have and continue to place thenm in this predicament. Their leadershi never talks of Unification rather goes on overseas meetings attempting partition something that has not been given to him in the last 33 years and not likely to happen for another 50 years if at all. I beleieve he is a traitor to Cyprus and am ashamed that such Cypriot exists. That is my view on Talat.

In relation to your coment about Presidential election. Well for an educated, peace loving person as yourself. Yes this would be an opportunity for Turkish speaking Cypriots to have their say. It is an opportunity to build a greater Cyprus than the one we have had with its painful history. However once again personal interests and lack of integrity gets in the way. Short sight and immediate results are also to blame.

The fact that Turkey has an interest in Cyprus beyond securing safety for Turkish speaking Cypriots is a major problem in finding a solution to the problem. The fact that Talat an his leadership is pushing for partition is also another obstacle. I bet my bottom dolar that if he was genuine about unification that we could change the status quo.

There are two great inspirational Turkish speaking Cypiots on the forum who have already posted various recomendations for a United Cyprus however most of the Turkish speaking Cypriots have shot them down and called them ever name under the sun. Some particular member who wish to take on the victims like the rest of us have not experienced the pain of a divided Cyprus will call you names and will say how dare you think you can solve it that is arogant to think that you can solve it.

The difference between them and I is that I want to solve it for the right reasons. That is Cyprus is one small Island that belongs to all Cypriots and and secondly I see each human being as that a human being. Same as me wanting same future and same lifestyle.

I would have been more glad had I found a forum where Turkish/ Greek/ Armenian/ Maronite/ Jewish Cyriots came together to bring our people together not to separate them reate divisions and hate, but for the time being this is what I have to work with.

Good luck and get used to the insults. I choose to stay out of it most of the time. Hope you will do also. Chat to Kikapu and Birkibrisli, two visionary men who share a vision of a united peaceful Cyprus.

Right! I think it is time to educate us. You have made a lot of statements about this group or another being a propaganda group. I know what happened because I was part of all this shit and most people know what happened because you guys have been caught red hands more than once, just like in the case of all the missing people and all the exaggerations. How about you give us some conclusive evidence that the groups and individuals are as you say. Try a bit of evidence and stop all this "word of GR and Piratis"crap.
