Transporting Dogs to Cyprus

Postby deedeepuss » Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:39 pm

Can anyone help please, a while ago someone put a post saying that instead of using a company to move their pet they had bought their own carrier for the plane journey, and had a good deal. I have used the search but can't find the post, I should have written it down at the time, but didn't. Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated.

You can take your dog on the same flight as yourself flying BA.Your dog is taken as excess baggage,so you are only charged at excess baggage rate.
If you ring Peter Gilman he will sort it for you.

Thank you Norman I will give him a call, it is appreciated.

I would still appreciate the info on the pet air carriers as I will still need a carrier to put the dog in for the plane journey.

Thanks

Dee

You have to ensure the carrier is the correct size for your dog, otherwise the animal inspectors at the airport will not allow him to travel.

They have to be measured from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail then have excess room after that and the height at standing to the top of the shoulder. Plus the width of the dog at the widest point.

The dog has to be able to sit, stand and turn around in the carrier.

Dee the process (jabs, blood tests, chip etc) of preparing you pets takes a long time, roughly 7 months I've been told, we hope to move next April and our vet has told us to get the process started in two weeks time.

How much does it it cost in total to take a dog.

Ie would it be worth taking our dog when we go for a month next year or is it only really something worth doing once

Depends on the size and weight of the dog, £4.81 per kilo as excess baggage plus £20 handling fee and possibly a small handling charge at the airport on landing, our dog is a Border Collie, the travell cage will cost around £60, our vet charges £120 for all jabs, chip and passport etc.
