Denktas Acts in TV Series to Get his Point Across

Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas is acting in a TV series in order to get high profile media coverage with regards to the struggle by Turkish Cypriots days before the 1974 Peace Operations. "What can I do? I always publicly explained the Cyprus problem but the Turkish media didn't cover this as news. I found this opportunity with the TV series."

Denktas appears in one episode of TV series "Kurtlar Vadisi", Denktas' role is the key to finding the solution of the plot. In this episode Denktas explaining the struggle by Turkish Cypriots leading up to the 1974 Peace Operations.

"In fact, I did not play a role, it was real what I was saying. Although it was acting it was real material. I did not have troubles with the acting because I am used to the camera", said Denktas while filming the scenes in the cemetery at Lefkosa and Girne that show Turkish soldiers as martyrs in 1974.
Denktas played a role that he was familiar with, the role of "Turkish Cypriot President." The episode will be shown on TV on March 3.

Im sorry but I find that offensive. Turkish soldiers of 74 are as much martyrs as the leaders of EOKA B.

Maybe I should start raping some woman and then I can be labeled a martyr.

I really hope there havent been any recent TV shows in the RoC portraying EOKA B as freedom fighters! I believe that would fall under the category of propaganda.

Magikthrill,

Why only EOKA B? How about EOKA itself?

Do you consider EOKA as a liberaotor or a terrorist organization?

In many instances in this dirty world "One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist"

p.s. I am not trying to deny the fact that there were many bad, bad things done to GCs in 1974, although I have been ignoratnt about the fact that I failed to do a reseach about the sufferings of GCs. And that is my fault. So I simply take your word for the sufferings.

But this does not change the fact that however cruel and inhuman Turkish army could be in 1974, it still saved our asses from cruel and inhuman GCs. So I guess for me there are still liberators.

I simply wished that all that cruelty as you have claimed would not have taken place in 1974 with the Turkish army. I am not trying to justify what they did, and it was certainly wrong. But I guess, a person who is doing bad for one person can at the same time do good for another.

But trust I me understand the sentiment and offence because every April 1st I feel what you feel at every 20th of July.

How about getting rid of celebrating both of them? Do you think GCs and/or TCs are ready for that? I know I am ready to leave the past in the past and look forward.

lol i celebrate nothing april 1st (im a march 25th kinda guy ;) )

but isnt that the liberation of Cyprus from BRITAIN?

ANd as far as EOKA is concerned I understand it committed crimes against TCs as well but its initial goal was the liberation from the Brits. And I believed (I am not sure on this) that this is how it is perceived by the majority of modern Cypriots today. EOKA B was more of a terrorist organization than anything else though no doubt about that.

I do find it quite ineresting though that you were never told about the crimes committed against GCs during 74 since I was taught from a young age that bloud was spilled from both sides during that year. i mean did you never question why the north is isolated and under sanctions in the first place? you think you'd done something wrong there.

but i do agree "ones mans freedom fighter is another man's terrorist" unless this terrorism involves the death of innocent women and children then its strictly terrorism. dont look at the US thats been killing babies in Iraq left and right and gets away with it. you know what i mean though.

In fact no TC was touched in 1974 until the Turkish troops invaded. Whatever happened against TCs in 74 happened after the invasion had started as a retaliation.

EOKA had as an aim the liberation from the colonialists. This was the case in most countries that were under the colonialists. Now because some people wanted the colonialists to remain in Cyprus and they sided with the colonialists, this doesn't make the struggle for liberation less noble.

In the USA for example they had the Patriots (the ones that fought against the colonialists), and the Loyalists (the ones that fought on the side of the colonialists). Does this mean that the American revolution was wrong because some people didn't agree with the armed struggle against the colonialists and they sided with them?

The struggle was a noble one, and there are many heroes from it that we will always honor. Of course among EOKA members we had some criminals, and those and their actions are condemned, but not EOKA as a whole. No confusion should be made between the original EOKA and the EOKA B. EOKA B was a terrorist organization, made by idiots are traitors, that went against the democratically elected president of Cyprus.

To my knowledge that is celebrated as the EOKA day in south. I may be wirng though.

ANd as far as EOKA is concerned I understand it committed crimes against TCs as well but its initial goal was the liberation from the Brits. Quite honestly to many TCs including me teh difference between EOKa and EOKA B is very subtle taht can not even be detected. The primary differnce was that EOKA's main enemies was Brits and TCs, and EOKA B's main enemies was some part of GC society and again TCs. So we were target in both cases.

I do find it quite ineresting though that you were never told about the crimes committed against GCs during 74 since I was taught from a young age that bloud was spilled from both sides during that year. i mean did you never question why the north is isolated and under sanctions in the first place? you think you'd done something wrong there.

Hey I have never told you that blood was not spilled. I have never been educated on the atrocities that you claim Turkish army performed on GCs just like you have never been educated on the atrocities EOKA have performed on TCs.

I am never a person that claims that history is though naturally in anywhere. The study of history is always biased in any government towards that government policies. The official line of Turkish government ( and I am not saying that I agree with it) Turkish army did not do any atrocities other than fighting with the enemy within the limits of rules of combat.

Of course as I grow, and started getting more and more contact with GCs and GCs sources I realize that their claim is different. But I have never done any extended search on the matter to realize the extent and scope of the claims. And that is my fault I admit. As person who question any government puts in front of I should have been more critical of official line and do my own research about it.

but i do agree "ones mans freedom fighter is another man's terrorist" unless this terrorism involves the death of innocent women and children then its strictly terrorism. dont look at the US thats been killing babies in Iraq left and right and gets away with it. you know what i mean though.

But that is what happened to some TCs in the hands of EOKA. I admit the instances may not be as many as Palestinians, but nevertheless I have never heard one admittance let alone apology to TCs.

But anyway, restitution of apologies and admittance is not what I am after. I am after people stop talking about the past and looking to future.

If this is your knowledge Piratis, I advise you to do more research to your own history and learn more about the events prior to 1974 as well. Or better yet you can talk to Erolz, about it and ask when his uncle went missing. Was it after 1974 or before....

And I am waiting for a levelled discussion from this person.

Take care,
