Blood tests

Postby Hazza » Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:12 pm

In the UK, I had to have blood tests done every 6 months, but always needed a letter from my GP before going to the hospital to get them done.

What is the situation in Cyprus regarding blood tests? Do I need a letter from my GP to go to the hospital?? (hope not as I don't have one here). Do I get it done from a GP? Do I just turn up at the hospital to get it done? Are the special blood sample centres around that take it for you?

The only test I done in Cyprus was around 18 or 19 months ago, but I have since got rid of that GP (he wasn't up to much).

Any help on this will be appreciated. Looking to get it done by this weekend.

I think you should be able to use the EHIC card for free medical treatment within the EU.

Hi Hazza

The EHIC card is "European Health Insurance Card". You can get it from a post office (it is free) or apply online at:

www.dh.gov.uk/travellers

or phone +44 (0) 20 7210 4850 (Mon - Fri, 9-5pm U.K. time)

You should then easily get the same services in the EU countries as in the U.K.

Good luck

Try Evangelo which is where the old St Raphaels clinic used to be in the Orphanides car park. 24 818183. He's very good, uses child needles (doesn't hurt so much) and reliable. Prices depend on what you are testing for. You don't need a doctors letter if you know what to test for.

Hope everything is alright ;)

Thanks everyone. Will look into those centres in Larnaca. Not too bothered about what size needles are used, the pain doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Once again, thanks alot for the replies.
