Turkish Cypriot culture.

North Cyprus National Holidays
Turkish Cypriots love to celebrate their country’s history, and many holidays are based around important events in North Cyprus’ history, such as Independence Day (15 November), Victory Day (30 August) and TMT Day (1 August). As a nation of predominantly Muslims, Turkish Cypriots celebrate major religious holidays, such as Kurban Bayrami and Seker Bayrami.

1. Country's History.??? Which country's history are we talking about...the "TRNC". Is this the country who cannot do anything on the international front as any other country can, even stage a friendly football game without the approval of the RoC.?

2. Independence Day.??? Independence from whom.?? How can one have an Independence from one's self. We are all Cypriots, all from Cyprus and are all still in Cyprus as Cypriots.!! Perhaps Independence from the British. Now that would make sense.

3. Victory Day?? Was there a war declared and who won and who lost. Can you all point out to me who the winners are. If the TC's were the winners, why is it the TC's need the permission of their "losers" to do anything on the international front.?? Something very wrong with this picture.

4. TMT Day.??? I still do not not what that is for.

You can keep thinking what ever the hell you like Kiks but the TCs are having a ball celebrating their country. I don't think you will be getting any invites as you have chosen your side and You have every right to do so. Good luck to you mate because you are not acting like a CYpriot but as a Nationalist Greek and everything you say backs that up. As I said you have every right to do that and you have used that right. Bravo.

I can't say I'm surprised to get a response from you the way you did. I'm not stupid as not to recognise that I will be inviting negative feed backs. Shame on you for calling me a Nationalist Greek, but then again, I take comfort knowing who the source is. But having said what you said Zan, which really does not bother me in the least, but just tell me what was so inaccurate to what I wrote against those special events that the "TRNC" has set for itself. These all may very well be nice events to entertain the kids, by giving them a parade to have a good time in the sun, but how can grown up individuals like yourself not question these events. Sorry my friend, but events like Independence Day, Victory Day are very meaningful days in the normal sense to any country who has earned them, and you expect for peace to develop with the GC in Cyprus by having these events.

This goes to show, that diplomacy is definitely not your forte.

And celebrating Makarios and EOKA and Independance of the "ROC" is going to promote peace and harmony.

I said you acted like a nationalist Greek and not that you were one.

Every one of our civilian dead that lies in marked or somewhere in unmarked graves gives us the right and the responsibility to do so mate so we will go on doing it until the "RoC" is dissolved and a new constitution is put together with us or we are living in our own recognised state. You are so quick to dismiss the wrongs against us but cry wolf at every twist and turn of the Greek suffering. I just want you to be more balanced but you cannot afford that to your own people. Have a read of our history again since 63 and then again and again....

You are not the "gatekeeper" of all the sufferings of the TC's, all by yourself Zan. I have experienced the events in 1963 and lost family members also. Often I write the suffering of all Cypriots in my many posts and by no means do I dismiss the TC's dead and only acknowledge the GC's suffering. I don't know how you can write the things you do sometimes with a straight face. I'm one of very few people on the forum that speaks the truth as I see it. I do not have very much information on what goes on with the GC's, so I rely on others to bring their information forward, so I talk about our affairs which you take it as being anti TC which cannot be further away from the truth. It may be things that you do not want to hear or accept, but that's another story, and if I inadvertently make a false claim or make a mistake, I'm always ready to apologize for my mistake, but that should not stop me from speaking about anything that has to do with the TC's, because in a free society we should be able to hold people accountable to what they do.

And celebrating Makarios and EOKA and Independence of the "ROC" is going to promote peace and harmony.

Whether we like it or not, Makarios was elected 1st President of Cyprus, so he is in History books no matter how he acted during his term. George Washington was also the 1st President of the USA and was also a slave owner, and he has his day for celebration. Correctly, it will be changed to "Presidents Day" soon, so that not one president is mentioned by name. I hope the same will be done in Cyprus.

EOKA-A can be valid, for fighting against the British rule, which may have helped in the long run by establishing the "TRNC".

If it's for EOKA-B, then I stand with you on this one and condemn it.

Again, a true Independence from the British which both the TC's and the GC's achieved in 1960 should be celebrated by all Cypriots. Until another Constitution is written, that's the only legal piece of paper we have, whether we like it or not. If and when we do have another Constitution, then there wont be any more Independence Day, but what the Swiss have, a National Day.

If you look very hard into what I write, you can finds things that will rub you or any other partitionist the wrong way. Try to look beyond your desire to be right all the time and read what is written and don't jump to conclusions to have an argument. I'm just having a "conversation" here and expressing my ideas, concerns and wishes. They are not meant to make you or anyone else happy all the time. I don't even make myself happy all the time with what I write, because it is not easy to write things that I know, I will get an earful from certain people. Would you be happier if no one ever contradicted what ever the TC's did and I just wrote exactly what you wanted to hear, whether I was being sincere or not.??

I said you acted like a nationalist Greek and not that you were one.

I know what you meant Zan.!!!
