I have found a new reason to hate Harry Potter. Its just not believable.

The unicorns and giants and whatever I can get away with. The magic, ok. The flying car, at a push I can believe. But a ginger with two friends???? I don't think so!

If it wasn't for Harry Potter, Kill Bill 1+2 and Lord of the rings, I would have given up on the film industry all together. Also saw Blood diamonds lately and thought that was a good film. I don't know his name but why the hell the black guy did not get an Oscar I will never know....

I am afraid you did not quite get it then. It is a piece of art and I would not be without it in my library.(Which happens to be a shelf in my living room by the way)

I haven't seen any film and have no intention. At my granddaughter's behest, I read the first book and found it boring to the nth degree. She then gave me the second one to read. I struggled through about half of it before I gave it up altogether. Since then, I've not opened a HP book. They are not even well-written literature. Their success is due to great marketing hype, at a time when the youth were into the hypernatural and Gothic trends.

I'll say this, though; the HP books may have one merit. They have introduced countless young'uns into reading for enjoyment and, who knows?, some may even get round to reading good literature. When I was a kid, many centuries ago (well!, last century!), I enjoyed Richmal Crompton's William books (I think there must have been 40 of them), also written about a schoolboy by an authoress. They certainly helped me into reading for pleasure.

i was in london the week of the official launch of the newest harry potter book and i couldnt believe what was going on.
The launch was the second story on the news after the floods.

Also hundreds, maybe even thousands of people lined up outside Waterstones bookshop to buy it on the first day of its launch. In the rain!!!
And the worse part is that you could get it delivered to your doorstep on the same day. I dont understand why. Is there a fun factor here that im missing?
