U remind me an American student of mine who asked me ''if the Aegean Sea is salty too'' :)

By the way , Nigeria is a cool place, r u Ibo, Yoruba or Hausa?? have u read Okokgwo's story?? it was 1 of my favourite..

Aww :(, I just don't want to be ignorant :-(. I tried though :(
My parents are Ibo.

I think that is good that she asked lots of questions...she is coming as a student and not as a tourist...if she was a tourist then she was going to have the time to explore...well as a student she need to be a bit prepared before she arrive. By the way Magazine I find it really great that you are interested about us our culture our life fashion weather etc. Good job girl i am with you always...

By the way Flitsa dont scare the poor girl...we are not that bad...and i do talk about politics religion etc in a very good way...no need to hit bite or kill anybody who doesnt agree with us...ok we are very passionate people but not up to the point to argue with a foreigner because said TRNC and not north part of Cyprus for example. Jesus...I hope magazine will not fall into the worst people.

Thanks Lena for sticking up for me.

Hey, don't worry. I know where to set my boundaries regarding certain heated topics (global or local). And I know that being an American presently puts me at a slight disadvantage because of its government and foreign policies (which I do not fully represent). I also acknowledge the fact that I will inevitably be drawn into a disscusion about politics, religion, economics and what not. It happens in America and it will probably happen in Cyprus. I am a Political Science major; what can I expect? BUT, I will always be aware of myself and try to keep these conversations minimal and respectable.

Filitsa mou, I am sure that she might get into a a conversation about politics since its her field if i am not wrong. She will be able to handle it and she might hear things about the Americans since the whole world is talking about them. But you know what....i always brought up this kind of subjects just to find out the locals opinion if they are up to those kind of conversations. But you always have to watch your back and handle the conversation...

Now that she's revealed she's a poli sci major, no doubt about it. Anyway, I hope her experience is an enriching one.

On another note, unlike you, Lena, in recent visits, I've never had to be the one to broach the subjects of American politics and American culture (not that I would want to either) because it seemed no matter where I turned someone else always did and often with a sneer. I've found it quite imposing because, when I visit CY, I hope to enjoy total immersion or close to it.

And while I have strayed away (lured away by rude, insensitive, brutish 52 year-olds!!!) from Cyprus Problem section...let me give you some really good advice, dear makazine...

These people you have interracted with so far have collaborated to lead you into a false sense of security...What they forgot to mention is that Cyprus is the world centre of black magic and witch craft...Every year towards the end of September, there is a big festival called Souvlakia Festival of Sacrifice...This is the only day of the year the Greek Cypriot witches and Turkish Cypriot Witches and black magicians come together to eat, drink, and offer a sacrifice to the forces of evil and demon worship...The sacrifice is always a young Black American woman...Usually an unsuspecting Cyprus College student lured to Cyprus via this very Forum ...The High Priest and the person who personally slaughters the sacrifice and cuts her up in bite sized pieces for cooking on skewers called souvlaki (or shish )is none other than you friendly interlocuter Kikapu...Please consider yourself warned...
Yours in humanity,
Birkibrisli...................

You are very funny. But based on your avtar picture, I think that you are the High Priest of the witchcraft festival  I will beware of you. And don't forget, you are the one who wants to meet Kikapu at the crack of dawn to beat her up, then cut her into little cubes, and cook her in a big pot while using a walking stick as a spoon to stir her. All culminating to a sweet Cypriot dish!! !!Beware of Birkibrisli all!!
