I will disagree with palio... (Kidding) ...public transportation is not the best one...and if you will be a student I won’t suggest too many taxies. Well yes Cyprus College is in the Legal territories and is near the center but I am not quite sure if it 10 min walk...I didnt walk that way...

Nicosia is a good area to walk and I suggest to get a house/flat/room somewhere near there even though might be quite expensive.

your right its not the best thing the public transportation.. and from cyprus college to lidras its close.. but most r to lazy to walk it... ok maybe 20 lol. but depending on where you are staying also you might think of a bike alot of the tourists here have bikes because its so close to where they live

Pliometoxo is right...most Cypriots are too lazy to walk so they all have their cars...but many students walk or use bikes...if you can ride a bike sound a good idea since you will stay for a short period or you can make a nice Cypriot friend that can take you around...

Magazine, Paliometoxo is studying in the same college as you .... try top know him better

By the way tonight I was out for a coffee i have seen at least 5 color young people walking around. So I guess its not a rare thing. And near Cyprus College I saw some bus stops which means that you can get the buses from there.

Lena dear, are they still calling Black people "coloured people" in England?

Black Americans will find this term very offensive, assuming they even understood that word in the first place. The word "Black" is very acceptable to Blacks in the States. You can also say"African American or Black Americans" but please don't call them "coloured".

They will tell you somethings that you will not like otherwise.

Kikapu my dear...I guess i have so many things to learn. Thanks for the tip. Well in Greek its offensive to call someone black but colored is not, so I guess my mind translated from Greek just to avoid to sound offensive...and I guess I accomplished the opposite.

By the way...I am not in England any more (at least for the moment) so I am not sure how thy call them..and when I had to talk about black people I used their names. never had to talk in general.

By the way ...what they might say to me???? :?

I know you are back from the UK, but I thought perhaps you picked up the "coloured" term there.

If you called that Very Tall Black Girl from Texas, Makazine, coloured in her face, I doubt she would say anything to you. Well, at least you won't know what she might have said to you while you were asleep, because you would have been "knocked out" for a while.

In the states they would just say to you, "who the hell are you calling coloured Bitch" then he would say to his friend " did you hear what that Mother F**ker just called me" before saying to his friend " I ought to slap the Bitch upside her head" or some thing worse Lena.

When you think about it Lena, are we all not "coloured"? I mean, look at most Meditteraneans. Most of us have a "olive skins" which is a shade of a colour, is it not, but we don't like to be called coloured, do we.??

Hell F**k NO.

LOL...well thank you for all the info   very educative lesson.

You are right we are colored...well not the Brits...they are whitey and when they come to Cyprus are red. Kidding. To be honest I dont get easily offended and if someone calls me white colored red green or whatever i dont mind. I know who I am and I am not expecting anyone to tell me what is my skin color. By the way when I teach kids this stuff ... we do the traditional thing and open our mouth to see that we all look the same from inside, we have the same colors and that we all are different and since we have names we dont have to call each other black, tall, small, short or whatever.

I know what you mean but really i didnt know that is offensive to call them colored. I really appreciate your lesson and your commnets are always welcome

By the way you are allowed to call me anything Kikapu  but not all the above you wrote

I would never call you anything bad Lena. Natty can testify on my behalf, that I treat ladies with love and respect.

These are good information to teach the kids in school, so that when they grow up and visit the USA, they will know what to say.

The other No No is, calling the Native Americans "Indians or American Indians" even though it is commonly used. But if you ever meet Native Americans face to face, do not refer to them as "Indians". These are white mans labels given to these great warriors.

Oh by the way, the word "whitey" is also offensive to the whites, which how some blacks call the whites in the States.

I know, you are saying to yourself, "my god, Political Correctness has gone crazy".

(Any one can answer this) In your opinion, what are the best places to visit in Cyprus. What is a nice place to have fun, and are there clubs and stuff like that? What Kind of music do y'all listen to? Pop, hip-hop, rock, indie, classical? I know this is a weird question, but are there a lot of snakes in Nicosia?

 LMAO... ROFL... Kikapu, you are definately very funny!! But you are totally right. That's almost exactly what would happen if you called a black person colored in America. The way you wrote it is soooo funny.
Hey Lena, no offence taken though.

Mills Chapman wrote:Hi Makazine,

If I were you, I would pick up the Rough Guide to Cyprus - http://www.amazon.com/Rough-Guide-Cypru ... 651&sr=8-1 - as well as Lonely Planet's phrasebook for Greek. I would focus more on learning some Greek phrases than on learning Turkish phrases. Also, try learning a bit about the "Cyprus problem" before you come.
Also, be careful: Cyprus is pricey for us. More expensive than Greece or Turkey.

Thanks, I checked out the book on Amazon and it seems pretty good. I will probably buy it. Do you know whether it is cheaper at Barnes and nobles or Borders? can I find it @ Half Priced Books?
