Are Greek Cypriots doing anything to help the peace process?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:55 am

24% voted for the solution offered by the Annan Plan, Paliometoxo. These people were no fools. They are the best the Greek Cypriot community can offer. They are genuine peace lovers and true Cypriots who understood very well that sharing our country with the Turkish Cypriots is the only way for peace, stability and prosperity. All we need to do is to accept that the Turkish Cypriot community is politically equal to us and then solution will be easy. Turkey may not rush for it at the moment with the EU accession process moving so slowly but at least we will regain our credibility which has been lost due to the way Papadopoulos behaved prior and after the referendum.

Also, one mustn't forget that a big chunk of the 76% "no" vote belongs to AKEL. With AKEL slowly but steadily returning to its old pragmatic self (after the disastrous alliance with the most rejectionist forces) it could be that soon we may be talking about a new solution plan that will be based, of course, on bizonal, bicommunal federation, but which will address the genuine fears and anxieties of the Greek Cypriot community.

Papadopoulos did nothing for almost four years - after the referendum - and thus lived up to his image as a man who does not want solution. He is a keen advocate of the Dountas's dogma and he wrote on it in his newspaper before becoming President. The dogma says, in short, that we should push things until de facto partition is reached and then sit tight until the balance of power changes and then liberate our occupied parts. This myopic and dangerous position is fostered by Papadopoulos and when when Christofias was reminded of this five and a half years ago he said the infamous "the man has changed". Now that he realised (the hard way) that the man has not changed, he is seeking to remedy things. Let us hope it is not too late for Cyprus.

If both sides voted yes, the plan would had been implemented as it was. We said "NO" for the plan as it was. All our leaders that supported NO specified that changes needed to be done to the plan. If you really wanted to work for Cyprus together then you could have done so after the vote. I recall an invitation to your so called president Talat to discuss the plan which was denied.
So just drop the act. You never wanted a real solution. Just one that suits you.

No, they were people which were mostly not refugees and they didnt care whatever happened to the occupied area. Or even refugees that simply gave up all hope.

But why are we still discussing the 2004 annan plan?
Its over, build a bridge and get over it. You want us to vote yes? Then work together for a new plan. If you just dont care then at least shut up and let us wash the dirty laundry.

BelloTurco...
Welcome to the forum.I am one of those TCs Viewpoint has warned you about.I can see both sides of the coin, and I have a lot of empathy for our GC brothers and sisters...You want to know what the GCs are doing for peace...That question would be more effective if you can point out first what the TCs are doing for the peace process...It is natural perhaps to use the argument " We voted for the AP" hence we want peace, but for how long????How long are we going to milk the same old excuse for doing nothing???When are we going to accept that the GCs have voted NO,as it was their democratic right,to this particular peace plan because they saw it essentially as a disguised Partition plan???Hence they have proved that they do not want partition, they want reunification under more democratic terms...What have we been doing since the vote? Insisting on the lifting of the ambargoes....Insisting on recognition....Insisting on direct trade...Insisting on celebrating 20 July as a national day...Insisting on lighting that silly flag on Besparmak every night to spite and annoy our compatriots...Tell me Bello Turko...do we have the guts to stand up and demand our rights under the 1960 constitution????Do we have the guts to tell Turkey she has abused her Guarantor's right of intervention to restore the independence and integrity of the RoC???Do we have the guts to tell Turkey she is defying international laws by bringing in those poor settlers and turning part of Cyprus into little Turkey???Do we have the guts to tell Turkey to return to us our right of selfdetermination???? You answer these questions before asking the one you have...You will have more credit in many eyes after that...

Turkey did n t invade the İsland it sent a peace keeping mission to stop a minority of people from being slaughtered out of existence. Or perhaps you deny the fact that innocent Turkish Cypriots were being killed? And as for your statement about me being shot in Turkey. You try to portray Turks as animals but anyone who has visited Turkey we know how wrong you are and how open to discussion Turks are. Your Grek Cypriot propaganda machine is coming to an end and when it does the whole world will know the truth.

You have been brainwashed, my dear! Peace keeping mission????? Open dicussions in Turkey?????

Turkey is about as free a state as Cuba is on free migration to the US. You oppress the Kurds, their culture, their language. Political opposition is murdered. You allow about 1 inch of free speak. You deny the Armenia Genocide, like you say the Invasion was merely a peace keeping mission. You deny the invasion.

Great sets of morals you people have...if you don't like a part of your history deny it..... What about the massacre in Chios where you wiped out 5/6 of the islands Greek population in 1822????

The fact that your puppet state is only recognised by the puppet masters is an example that you are brainwashed.

Stop smoking the wacky backy and read a proper book..........

So you want me to shut up twinkle. How appropriate! Well, I will not be doing you this favour, but on the contrary, I am willing to listen patiently to you and even ask you to explain what this new plan will be all about. May be we can agree on principle. I have no reservation for a new plan as long as it is pragmatic and can be accepted by both communities. I could shout my head off for a unitary state and win the sympathy of the patriots but this will not help my country. Remember, politics is the art of the feasible. Even Makarios understood this late in his life.

So, let us hear about your new plan. Iam all ears.

Actually there is BT, not an organisation, but a tiny little country within the EU...it goes by the name of RoC...

hint...think along the lines of, pensions, medical, passports, EU education, employment, etc...i am sure the list goes on...

So in short you are being well looked after...by your real benefactors...and not the pseudo, like the last 30 odd years...

oh...welcome to the forum

Is that after their obligations under the EU Pits or before.......How many pensions were given before???????

hahaha...hahaha...zan...always the unapreciable...hahahahaha

why your momma didn't deliver?...she came acrross the seas with so much promised and delivered misery, to the extend not even medical is provided...and by the way getting it for free has nothing to do with the EU...

as for the pensions, ask around, and learn

My momma has been delivering since 74 Pits.. Have you not heard. That is why we are not starving, like you intended us to be.

Where was your leader before the OXI? Playing games and screwing the EU. If he really wanted to then he could have made the A PLan exceptable before his last minute change of mind but Kifeas tells us that he did not have time. He never has time for us TCs and does all he can to scupper any plan that might give us our rights and a united Cyprus. He is still following the Makarios line of ENOSIS. Although he has already achieved that with the EU but the complete anialation of the TC people is not going to happen.

Are you trying to advertise your self Bananiot or are you trying to discredit the rest? Something like your calling everybody who is not like you " fashists" or a "grey wolves of the GC side"?? :P :P :P

Imo the majority of those were just people risking their chances and hoping for the best. 8)
