Theres no need. We are not the same as the mainlanders...Cypriots are completely different and just because we can relate to mainlanders doesn't mean we should be flying their flags.

I think we're much better than mainlanders and so is our culture. MUCH BETTER!

garagoz if you are really a cypriot you should be ashamed of yourself..you and your fellow neo-cypriots are a disgrace...why are you ashamed of your own nationality? we cypriots are greeks, historically, ethnically,culturally.linguistically....etc......
our real flag is the greek flag and you will see this all over cyprus....the cyprus flag is our official rep of cyprus flag and we are proud to show this as our flag as it shows our pride in cyprus...but we are also proud to be greeks. Of course cypriots have differences with the mainlanders like the language but this is also the case with many greek islanders like in rodos..have you noticed the rhodians speak nearly identical to us cypriots.....remember the cypriot dialect is a dialect of greek and is in fact closer to historical greek than is the "standard" greek. you and your neo-cypriotists are a bunch uneducated morons disgracing the great majority of cypriots

Listen mate I was born and I grew up in CYPRUS so I naturally I prefer it to Turkey. Turkeys lovely but I would never want to live there. I like my little island. I am still Turkish but I'm a Turkish Cypriot from CYPRUS.

Why is it that people on this forum seem to be so narrow minded, rude and petty in their comments to other people on this site and are not capable of holding an adult conversation. This is suppose to be a forum about Cyprus, not for racist biggets or nasty people.

A bit or respect for others and some manners goes a long way. Clearly people on this site are hardly capable of this. What makes Cyprus Cypriot is the mixture of people of the past, the natives who were already there before the Greeks, the phoenecians who were there and extablished colonies, the Asyrians and the large Latin influence which has cleary been removed over the years and replaced by moden Greek/Turkish curture. Cyprus is more unique compared to any Greek Island that it has and had a different path in history to any location in Greece and that is can't ever be just another region of another nation. It had always been different and always will be a unique island. What i see as Greek as in pass-tense is not the same as in moden Greek. Cyprus has some connections with past-tense principles of Greek but not present.Do parts of Italy call themselves Greek? I dont think its the same thing and the Greek flag represents Greece and here islands, not Cyprus. When the Cypriots wanted rid of of the British there was no Cypriot flag to fly. One of the main reason a lot of Cypriot I know would not want union with Greece is that Greece betrayed us and would never really help us in times of need. We didn't think as a people that we could ever be a country and it would never be safe to be so. So being Greek is a way of feeling safe. Thats another reason Cyprus entered the E.U. So Turkey can never invade again! Well... one of the reasons.

Neo Cypriot, welcome to the forum. In the month that you have been a member you have come to the conclusion that we ALL bicker with each other. Some of this bickering has been going on for a good few months if not years.

As for the jokes and jibes....makes life a little less serious :P

Too short a time to make generalisations Neo-Cypriot. What an archaic sounding tag. Like Neo-Lithic. Welcome anyway and enjoy.

well neo-cyp your name reveals your agenda and your twisted logic, when you talk about natives who were there already in cyprus or the phoenician etc etc you can pick any spot in greece eg. crete and make the same twisted logic about crete being different from other greek regions and thus not really greek....or as a matter of fact any other region in any european country eg. sicily or bavaria. Your comment shows how uneducated you are.

another ridiculous statement, just go anywhere in cyprus and look for the greek flag, you will hardly miss it, obviously due to geo-political factors cyprus is the republic of cyprus ( which we are proud of ) and we have our own official flag but this doesnt stop us from being GREEK cypriots and we will always consider the greek flag and greek national anthem as our own. Remember our national anthem is the greek national anthem. Stop showing your lack of knowledge about yourself and your identity and history. I would suggest reading some books.

this is typical neo-cyp lies, Greece did not betray us, The Junta with the CIA/Kissinger behind them betrayed us to the Turks. Remember the Junta were unelected and its leaders are currently locked up in Greece as traitors to Greece. The great majority of the Greek people didnt want them in power. If the Cypriots could have enosis it would of happened by now as most wanted it back in the 50s, after all we fought a war with the british to achieve it. Also most cypriots voted for it in a referendum before the EOKA struggle started. However due to geo-political factors the Rep. of Cyprus and a peaceful solution is the best way to move forward. This can only happen with respect between GC's and TC's and not to forge a historically non-existent cypriot nationality.

ok so you are turkish cypriot, thats fine mate, the only solution forward is for GC's and TC's to respect each other as exactly that in any future solution, the proof that we can live together is in the lack of incidents since the green line was opened.
