My husband has left me

Postby song bird » Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:12 pm

This is a scenario......my husband and I moved here with our 3 children, he has just left me penniless and alone for another women. My children are aged 3, 7 and 9.

Can I get any benefits, being an expat....I gave up child benefit when I left UK, telling them I was moving abroad.

My only other income is a partime job.

Any replies or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Ouch! I'm sorry I cannot answer your questions, but please accept my sympathy: I appreciate how difficult it must be, under the circumstances. Without knowing anything concrete, I suggest you are probably entitled to support for the kids from him.

Thank you Devil, on his low wages I doubt I will get anything, let alone the kids. Afterall he needs his money to impress his new women!

If your children were born in UK you should still be able to claim child benefit whilst residing in Cyprus

To blazes with his concubine(s): take him for every penny you are entitled to. I presume he is the father of the kids: he has a statutory obligation to support them until they stop their education.

There is no UK embassy. FC means the British High Commission in Nicosia.

If you don't live in Nicosia it will be awkward to find, try going to the UKCA near St Georges Hotel if you are in Paphos, you don't have to join, but they have all the phone numbers and contacts you may need.
