[You need new glasses, if you see the GCs and TCs hating each other.

I know that the majority didn't hate each other, I remeber one token battle (to keep the UN prescence) around Halfway House in 1967 near the old junction of the Nicosia, Limassol Larnaca roads they fought all day for the loss of an Ouzo supply donkey.
Very often mainly after dark Greeks and Turks would visit each other, there was no visible dividing line between the GC & TC quarters of Limassol, if real emnity had existed that would hardly have been the case.
What I have been told is that Northern Cyprus has had a large influx of mainland Turks with an equaly high number of TCs having left Northern Cyprus, this I think will present a major problem in a possible reunification attempt as mainland Turks will have no historical background of the true Cyprus way of life, just as mainland Greeks are not Cypriots.

Big Oz makes a point in anotehr thread on CYPRUS AND CYPRIOTS IS NOT GREEK where he states: "So visit the South with a Northern registered car and get it smashed to bits by thugs instead! " this, Devil, is where my comments are based as far as "hatred" between GCs and TCs. my mistake, i thought it was in this thread.....

If you believe every bit of racist propaganda, then you really are naive. Hundreds of N-registered cars cross over every day without getting trashed. If a Quebec-registered car got damaged in one of the poorer quarters of NYC, is this because Americans hate Canadians?

Take most of what you read on these boards with a large pinch of sodium chloride. Better still, come over here and see for yourself before jumping to the wrong conclusions because there are a few extremist fanatics on these boards.

In all probability, I know more about the USA and its people than you do. I have worked in 25 of the 48 contiguous States (from Vermont to Florida, on the East, from Washington to California and Idaho to Arizona on the West, and some States in between the E and the W.) Have you travelled as widely in the USA? I happen to have four US awards on my office wall, including one from the US EPA (I'll be receiving the EPA's most prestigious award in September, as well), one from the US Navy and two from one of the largest trade organisations in the USA, representing the electronics industry. In addition, I have a framed Certificate of Appreciation from Boeing.

I think you chose the wrong target for your vituperation! Especially as I'm not, nor ever have been, anti-American. I'm against American policies that disrupt the peace of the world around us (cf, $63bn dollars of arm sales to Israelis and Arabs, the absolute height of folly), but that does not make me anti-American. I'm against stupidity perpetrated by any nation, including my own, but that does not pit me against them. Perhaps this concept is a little difficult for you to get your head around???

i have lived all over the USA myself when i was growing up. my fatehr was military, and we lived somewhere differnt every year. i have been back in NY for majority of my adult life. i find stability very satisfying after a childhood moving around so much.
there are alot of american foreign policies i don't like either, and i complain, but they don't listen to me.
i am glad you got to see this country. no country is perfect, and being so large presents alot more problems than a tiny country such as syprus.
i do hope to visit sometime soon, but i don't think it will be this year or next. but one never knows..... ("stranger things have happened both before and after noon..."

I would be more worried about coming to live in Cyprus if Israel and the US were absent in this part of the world.
Also were it not for the British prescence in Cyprus it would now be the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, all of it!
The former Soviet Block has just as much to answer too as the western coalition.

I would rather have a bad peace than a good war. All war is evil, at any scale. Hitler came to power only because the Allies forced Germany into a stupid treaty that emasculated the country into an inevitable inflationary poverty. If the Treaty of Versailles had been more generous, the 2nd WW would never have happened and the history of this country would have been very different, indeed.

I never ever will adopt/support a blind eye policy and look the other way. Remember Ethiopia under the Italian invasion when the world looked the other way.

Germany chose not to surrender after WWI, that was Germanys mistake not the terms of the armistice, Germany would have fared very well after surrender look what happened to it after WWII, Germany chose to undertake The Treaty of Verssailles and its' terms, it made the wrong choice.

Please don't get like two other individuals and blame the west for everything I thought you had more gorm.
