Well hopefully the 4mbps won't be too pricey. I'm thinking the 2mbps will be at the old 1mbps prices, or a little more, with 4mbps probably being laughably high.

I really hope they don't stick with 128k upload. Or at least make it a bit better. I have no problem with 1mbps download currently (use 2 VPNs constantly to the UK with no worries), but the upload sucks. Try to FTP anything and it takes forever. If you are doing anything else at the same time and it can even kill the process. Totally sucks.

Actually that was one of the reasons I went with MiVision in the first place. I heard on some of the forums that the upload speed actually went to 256k if you had it. Don't know if they stopped that or something, because I definitely don't get 256k.

I doubt they will auto upgrade all 1mbps users to 2mbps. They don't come across as being too nice in that respect. Considering they won't have a large customer base, and we would probably pay extra (I know I would) to double the speed. NTL used to do that sort of thing (I went from 600k or so to eventually 4mbps (about 3 or 4 auto upgrades) for no extra cost, infact it got cheaper, when I was with them), but then again they had millions of customers.

Cheers

Got an answer about upload speeds:-

Regarding your request we would like to inform you that from 1st of September the upload speeds will be as follows:

For the 1mbps 256kbps (home user)
For the 2mbps 512kbps (home user)

For the Business 4mbps 512kbps

So looks like 1mbps is automatically doubling upload and 2/4mbps will quadruple current upload speeds. That will do me.

Cheers

Duncan, think about it.

How big is Cyprus? Its not, its a small Island.
How many people live in Cyprus? then what percentage of those want the internet? Now for those that want the internet, how many are actually interested in the speed?

For ISPs to be able to provide a faster and cheaper service, there needs to be a good demand. Setting up the infastructure of an ISP costs alot of money. They can't just go and throw everything in one basket. They need to grow slowly and efficiently. They need to be able to see a return in their outlay.

im in the uk now and my internet drops alot on this 8meg ukonline account way more then my cytanet ever has and even with 24meg speeds for £30 a month adsl lines cant handle that speed... u have to have cable and how many years ago was it that with cable and adsl here u could not get more then 1meg or 1.5meg... sure cyprus is slow but we are catching up with speeds we already have 10meg down and 1meg up with the cable company.. prices will get cheaper..

£20 for 2meg i think thats neare to what ntl charge only they give a lower upload dont they? instead of the 512kb adsl isps are giving in cyprus here they give 256kb even the 24meg connections only have 768kb while in cy the 10meg has lower ratios and higher upload 1meg ...

it just sucks being in a village i doubt ill be able to get that

Don't know if I posted the email I got back from Cytanet support about prices on this topic or another. Either way, I got *another* email from them that seems to go against the first email:-
First of all we would like to thank you for your e-mail.
Concerning your enquiry we would like to inform you that the official prices for some of the new products are not available yet.
Here are the prices that are available:
1mbps
I-Choice: 15.00 CYP / month
Netrunner (Cytanet): 9.50 CYP / month [From 1st of September]
2mbps
I-Choice: 20.00 CYP / month
Netrunner (Cytanet): Official price not available yet
4mbps
I-Choice: 85.00 CYP / month
Netrunner (Cytanet): Official price not available yet
Note: All prices are without VAT, which is the 15% of the value.
The official prices for the new products (Netrunner – Cytanet) will be announced later.
MiVision package will still operate the same.

So, first of all they now say the full official prices are not released (previous email from same address was all ok). Secondly they add the price for 4mbps, which unsurprisingly is a laughable idiotic amount. Thirdly they say MiVision will work the same. Strange, the other email states that MiVision won't work with the 4mbps as it's a business package :D

Typical Cytanet rubbish information. You know, where one webpage points to one thing, and a second points to a totally different answer for the same thing. Without dates or anything to help you out, and all from official links from the front page... Well at least you can't really 404 an email (unlike some links on the main website). Do you ever get the idea that Cytanet is run by a teenager in his bedroom?

Cheers
