In every walk of life you will find people with different views on a wide variety of subjects , and with varying levels of tolerance for other people's views.
I have to admit that I'm not one who subscribes to the notion that one has to respect other people's views or cultures regardless of how objectionable such views / cultures might be. I do subscribe to the democratic right that all have to express their views , excluding vulgarities , but I will most certainly not respect views expressed by perverts , murderers , psychopaths and damn right stupid individuals. This forum is not a kindergarten but a forum where people from all walks of life "meet " to add their opinions on varying subjects and exchange views.

I shall email Admin requesting that the posts made by a certain rude individual be removed from this thread.

miltiades

(i love your name )......bro ..do nothing of the sort ...indeed if you react in that way ...you have gone back ,on what you wrote on the first line ...

never censor ...arguments ...it is best to allow freedom of speech ...eventually quoting back their ignorance

how and what is censorred is a restrciction of freedom ...this is what the facist /nazis and communist did ...never bro ...freedom of voice .... this is the most important right any man or woman can have ...no matter religion nor race ...here all arguments ..then and only then ...can we have true democracy ...even on a forum

peace

Well said Miltiade mou. Everybody should express their views.

But I remember an old thread that was about this kind of posts. Well I support the one that let the Admin do the job and the Moderators. I think that they have been doing good job up to here. Some people doesnt learn easily but as Miltiades said this forum is not a kindergarten and Admin I guess has better job than ban people all day or give detention to those you need to rethink what they wrote.

When you have read several of miltiades's posts you will realise that here is someone who's been round the block a few times, regarding the recent history of cyprus few are more qualified to pass comment than he is.
Miltiades may at times be considered a little too forthright for some people, that is the style of miltiades.
When certain individuals constantly put a blinkered and biased view it is bound to annoy people such as Miltiades of a more balanced and unprejudiced frame of mind and not some brainwashed imature individual.
Speaking for myself I will not refrain from replying in the strongest of terms when certain individuals (one in particular) constantly blame the UK for every ill that has befallen Cyprus at the same time implying that England is the only country that has been involved in empire building, an empire that has given birth to the British Commonwealth, how many other empires retain the close relationships with their former colonies that England does and yet at every opportunity this one individual attacks the UK. Not once have I or Miltiades attacked Cyprus.

I have never participated on another forum , Cyprus forum is my first and I doubt if if I will ever join another. What motivated me more than anything to join , having followed the posts for some time , was the blatant anti American anti British views by a number of members that reflect precisely how a large percentage of Cypriots view America and Britain. I was not going to stand idle and watch my nation being portrayed as an anti West when I could see clearly that our very future , both of our peoples future , was intertwined with Europe and the West . Our nations prosperity is totaly dependant on the West , no ifs no buts , Cyprus has thrived financially , has build a road network that is equal to any in proportional size Western nations , it has , and has maintained a strong currency , the people are well cared for by the social services , Hospitals are on the whole adequate and social welfare plays a part in looking after those in need , families with more than 3 children have substantial benefits etc etc. To generate all of this benefits and social improvements we have to ask our selves where do all these derive from .
The Cypriots have copied the Greeks in many ways but not least the Greek "decease " Americanico dachtilo " Meaning American finger ie American interference, and all ills of the Greeks are attributed to the Americans.
Every since the 1974 invasion of Cyprus by Turkey , the UK Cypriots have organised an annual July demonstration calling for the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Cyprus. I have attended every year barring years that I was for one reason or another unable to do so. Many British MPS have attended year on year and have praised the organizers for ensuring that each demonstration was peaceful and civilized. A member on this forum , known for his virulent anti Western views has ridiculed the UK Cypriots and thrown scorn at their consistent efforts to contribute towards a solution to our islands' problems. Let me make it clear for the umpteenth time that my people are the Cypriots that includes the Turkish Cypriots , as well as all other Cypriots , my participation at this annual event will continue and it is in no way anti T/C , indeed my T/C friends know of my commitment to a free and unified Cyprus and calling for the withdrawal of foreign troops is in no way detrimental to my feelings for my compatriots.

Let me also say to those who have a bone to pick with the Brits , like it or not more than 250 thousand Cypriots have established a strong connection with the natives here in the UK , prominent businessmen and women are contributing to the Cyprus cause by being succesful , civil decent citizens who continue to support a free Cyprus and call for the unification of our island.
I remember Paphos , I was born there , before the influx of the tourists and before the Brits started bying properies and retiring in Paphos. Well let me tell you , it was "unspoilt " but you were lucky to eat meat once a month , my father would walk miles from village to village in search of work , he was a tailor. Our mode of transport required no fuel only grass and our highlight of the year was the Polemi panairi - festival ?
LONG MAY THE BRITS CONTINUE TO RESIDE IN CYPRUS .

well said...i echo your belief and views on this subject,i too grew up in the U.K ..The Greek CYPRIOT community has achieved amazing goals in business ,IT commerce ,banking ,law etc in the U.K and now most are coming here to bring their expertise (like me ) ..i am glad to see brits ,canadians ,russians coming here ........i miss england ..and its people .. ...the structure ,the research and planning before the organising of any event/article and service was admirable ..hopefully one day cyprus will be like that ..especially when tackling our "limited water supply issues over the next 10 years "
