What do you expect when visiting Paphos?

Postby simonwjones » Tue Jul 24, 2007 10:59 pm

Following on from RRichies post.

I now expect to see English this, English that. Chips with this and chips with that. Sky Sports, Bingo and Karaoke. Where is the Cypriot experience when visiting Paphos?

What do you expect when visiting Paphos?

If it weren’t for the archaeological sites my answer would’ve been a very simple... not much!

I went to Paphos about... 3 of 4 years ago... and we stayed near a village (I think) and it was very unbritish to me..

Also i briefly visited last year to see the bath of aphrodite, it was nice.. but i have to say it's one of my least favourite parts of cyprus after Ayia Napa <<< WHich i completly HATED.

when you come on holiday ,its for a break from the everyday things you do in your normal life .and people are happy seeing hotel all holiday and haveing the sun .then going home and saying .yeh i have been to paphos e few times .there to many brits there now .i have lived here since jan 2007 and lost count of the guest i have had over from uk .they have been to paphos many times but not one has been to agios georges and had coffee and sharma cake in sunset restaurant or turtle beach and seen the huge pigs before the last castle.or the fishing port .or had a pitta sandwich from a coffee shop for £2 .they dont bother to explore anywhere .this could be the fault of cypriots not seeming to be as friendly as they were 20 years ago.people say about all the staff in the places are not cypriots .true .buy dont people realise that years ago it was all family in the business but this generation of 20 year olds are all at collage and dont want the life ,that their parants had .and who can blame them .times move on its sad ,but thats life .paphos if you look can be bliss 8) 8) 8)

Sorry mate, don;t agree with you here. I've been to Turtle Bay, Akamas, Lara Bay and had Pitta before in villages when I have stayed in Paphos - one thing doesnt change Paphos is not a nice place anymore.

simon .has bar street goes its the same has any town in the uk on a saturday night .its just 7 nights a week but the rest of the places to eat and drink etc .have not got no passion anymore ,and the reason for that is the owners employing cheap labour .its catch 22 for them .there kids dont want to do it .were you would get passion .but the cypriots have got so greedy . they just want lackies to serve and clean tables .cypriots were the best in the world at takeing your money with a smile .and you didnt even now you had been mugged   but you went back time after time .now it feels like you are disturbing their night .they have got no passion and they are killing their goose.its a shame but they cant see it .i dont go into paphos for that reason .

paphos

Postby Gigi » Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:50 pm

I went to paphos harbour in april and hated it.
I used to go there many years ago, before all the changes and it was really a nice place to visit.
Where are all the cypriots now? where have they moved too? And where should we go in paphos to find the true cyprus.

You can get some nice fish and chips on the Tomb Of The Kings Road, the sign says "best fish and chips in the world we only use cod" I wasnt aware that cod was a species common to Cyprus waters.
