The trouble with the English is that they take an area and try and make it their own. They did the same in Tenerife they congregate in an area of British bars and never move for their 2 weeks holiday. My husband and i are great people watchers and the area in Las Americas where they congregate has what my husband calls 'turns 'on each night and they stake their claim on the tables at 8 o'clock ready for the entertainment.Cyprus is a lovely country we are visiting for a 3rd time in 6 weeks time. Our son got married there and it was the best holiday we have had.If you hire a car and go out instead of spending 2 weeks on a sunbed you can experience 'real Cyprus'.We have been to both ends of the island and loved it.You do not need to eat fish and chips and drink in an English bar,we always go to typical Cypriot ones.Next year its our 40th wedding aniversary and we are going to look for a villa so that the whole family can come out with us.The weather is superb,a lot of the beaches deserted,so look beyond the 'strip' get out and enjoy.

well it hink pubs in the tourist areas make it that way because they feel the english would not stay in the pubs if it was greek music and dancing they would like the english things more and have more customers... but your right about the sunbed thing go out see cyprus enjoy it... both sides

It's all a matter of 'demand and supply'.

RRichie, don't supposed you visited Pissouri on your travels? This is an absolutley wonderful place. http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... ages&gbv=2

Hi Mad-dog

I presume you have beento the Cyprus night on Wednesday nights?

no and i dont no if i will the pictures ive seen of it was people in football shirts doing the conga round the square now im not old but i like it abit quieter 8)
what is it realy like as its the first time staying in pissori .

we did little england and could not get out quick enought .
but we did like polis but we love pissori and will be looking for a property near there but not a new build

Its good, its a really good night. The conga bit might not be your cup of tea but its all greek music they are dancing too and not the birdie song!

There is also another Cyprus night down in the bay which is supposed to be even better, although i havent been yet. The atomsphere on these nights is fantastic - no chips, no karaoke, just plenty of wine and loads of greek food to tuck into!

mmmmm meze mmmmmm keo omg i cannot wait flying out of norwich on the 23rd a wed should get to the square just in time :D
i walk past anywhere that has pub, english food , sky sports ect
i eat with the locals coz they no where the best food is :P
god im getting hungry just thinking about a meze

Have a look for a restuarant called Hideaway. Its just behind the main square - we had a meze there and it was cracking, and very cheap. We couldn't eat all of it.

will give it a try thanks

I am not knocking the English just saying you need to look beyond the bars and go into the countryside,we have met locals and they are a mine of information, the Cypriots are so hospitable.

There are two types of brit holidaymaker, the ones that want to meet locals, eat local food and visit local places of beauty, and interest and the stereotypical brit abroad that wants burgers, crisps and chips, I have an interest in the Country and traditions of that Country but its a sad fact that a lot cant be bothered.
