It is the revenue that was obtained from the 'Gold Mines', the Diamonds and other precious commodities that made 'Great Britain'.

Since there are no such valuable minerals in the country, they must have been obtained elsewhere, you can bet that the 'Source Country' was treated to the usual 'Handful of Beads' exchange rate.

Those countries have now woken up, they are aware of the fact that they were robbed, ASK THEM.

Eliko you are stating the obvious regarding minerals etc, The top 4/5% made the money. My Wifes family lived and worked in a mining community and were means tested in the 1920s depression, back to back houses, four houses sharing an outside toilet, when we came to Cyprus in 1966 it was the first time both myself and my Wife had a kitchen and a Bathroom.
My Wifes parents still used an outside toilet until 1994 and up until then they didn't have the luxury of a bathroom either, my own parents didn't have an inside toilet or bathroom until the mid 1970s. so don't tell me that we exploited the world tell the people who really benefited.
The 'Great' in Great Britain refers to the British Isles as in 'United Kingdom' not greatness as a former world power.

I don't think we will have to wait too long now before the forces of aggression will have their arses kicked out of Iraq, they will not admit it of course, you would not expect otherwise, would you ?.

Not one word of condemnation !! Your hatred for the West is evident with every post. I suppose the UK served your purpose , albeit a total waste .
You have ample time to demonise the West but when it comes to the savages in Iraq you close your eyes and still blame the West. I pity you and all those whose blindness to the atrocities committed by the primitives in Iraq clouds their judgement.

Back to the Brits in Cyprus. Ask any shopkeeper , bar owner , restaurateur where their bread and butter comes from and the will tell you. Let me tell you in advance. If it wasnt for the Brits , both the retired and the tourists Cyprus's economy would be a little lower than that of Sri Lanca . Over 60 % of tourism IS BRITISH and they spend money too , our economy is reliant upon this foreign exchange to survive and it will continue to do so just as long as tourism is the main source of income .

I have lived here for some time now and have never visited: Bar Street, the Queen Vic or the Red Lion! It is unsuprising that you will find lots of British people if you visit 'British' pubs in the tourist area though I doubt if you found many (British) residents there, they are aimed at tourists, many of whom, presumably, like 'British' entertainment (whatever that is) but wish to enjoy the guaranteed climate of Cyprus.

Again, in Bar Street you will find very few British residents spending time there; it is aimed at young people - so attracts the young of all nationalities, both locals and tourists. There are not too many young British residents!

Most of my British friends here avoid the tourist areas and choose 'local' bars and tavernas to socialise in.

Contrary to what people might think, the Bitish population of Papos (town) is not high; most British people you see there will be tourists or residents from the outlying villages shopping etc.

The majority of British people live in the nearby villages: Tala, Coral Bay, Peyia. Kissonerga etc.

And yes, Eliko, any EU citizen has the right to stand to be an MEP or local councillor; they live in the local community and pay taxes, so why not? I assume the same situation obtains in all EU States. So, Peyia has a Dutch local Councillor - though I doubt if she will be ruining the Cypriot culture just yet.

All I can say to that is What a bloody waste of an education , especially since it was gained at the expense of the Western world . It is a shame that your full potential hasn't been utilised , alongside your icon Mr. Non-Decadent Osama Bin f..ng Ladin. He would indeed be proud of such an eloquent Jihadi such as you !

Eliko my Dear friend stop digging yourself into a deeper hole, no matter how much you insult people the facts will come back to haunt you.
Brit tourists did not build the bars on Bar Street, everything on Bar street is done to entice youngish holidaymakers to get drunk.
The Bars are mostly Cypriot owned (Idon't know if any are owned by none Cypriots), so if you'r so concerened these are the people you should be talking too, not insulting Cyprus's main income providers.
