Hi all my name is jean wills i am 35 with one daughter Jill who is 12, I have been living in cyprus for 6 months now my daughter Jill has been going to a local greek school (my husband is a cypriot).

My question is well she is coming to that time were a girl should be told about he periods and sex ed do they inform girls of that in school or would it be up to me to tell her???

also I have heard that I should take her to a gyno? In the uk I would just take her to the GP for things like that.

they tell her in school but like the uk its nice to sit and talk with her about it also

The GP will refer her to a Gyno so best to go there in the first place, although there is no need to go until you have to. She won't need a check up or anything. I would tell her now though as most girls would have begun or are about to start and she probably knows alot more than you give her credit.

I’m not a woman but there was an article in the newspapers just last week blaming the high levels of teenage pregnancy on poor sex education in Cypriot schools.

yes girls here are having sex from the age of 14 alot of them i should say most of them have already had sex by the age of 14

Having raised 4 daughters and worked in a deprived area with teenage children, l think that saying most 14 year old girls have or are having sex is a sweeping statement to say the least. The school ground talk may sound like it but believe me............ a lot is just talk.

as her mother i think you would be the best person to bring it up and have a girly chit chat
that way she'll know she can approach you if she has any other questions
