Are Turkish Cypriots indigenous to Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

When Turkey is ready to abandon her Turkic history, inheritance, and indigenousness and opt for an Ethiopian/Eritrean ethnic background; the oldest civilization found in the world, you may come and ask me to do that also.

In the meantime, I would ask that you and every other TC respect my Cypriot history, inheritance, and indigenousness. Thank you.

It has been prooven that you are not and exposed that you are lying about Greek Cypriots being indegenous and being in Cyprus for 10000 years. You are settlers that have come here much less than 10k years. Stop lying.

He says that a society existing and developing in a geographical area since the dawn of what the scientists regard the period of (written) history, i.e. for at least 3,500-4,000 years, cannot be regarded as an indigenous to that place, just because part of its cultural identity and part of its blood line source may have come from elsewhere.

According then to the screwed up theory of this idiot with the name of Murataga (or Mutargaa,) there must be absolutely no population or society in the entire world today that can be regarded as an indigenous to a place, simply because all of them at some stage of their history may have appeared and existed in some other area of the world.

Mutargaa, the only thing your idiotic theories can earn you is a PhD from a Turkish University, just because in Turkey they are known for their “creativity” when it comes to “teaching” the science of history, anthropology and all the rest of humanities.

And then he is wondering how it comes and he has become the laughing stock of the forum!

There is nothing complicated about this matter yet many are seemingly still confused. Indigenous means originating or occurring naturally in an area or environment.

The Turkish Cypriot people are the REMNANTS of the Ottoman invasion so there is NOTHING indigenous about them.

They DO NOT ORIGINATE and HAVE NOT OCCURRED NATURALLY from/on Cyprus but instead they first came to Cyprus UNINVITED in 1571.

Every single Turkish Cypriot should RECOGNISE, ACCEPT, and MEMORIZE the basic FACTS of Cyprus which are:

1. The Greek Cypriots are the ONLY indigenous people on the island of Cyprus.

2. The Greek Cypriots have a history on Cyprus spanning 10,000 years.

3. The oldest Greek Cypriot settlement found is older than that of anything ever found in Turkey or Greece.

Anyone who calls himself a CYPRIOT and expects to have any credibility and respect should first start by getting their basic facts right about Cyprus and that includes you VP.

wkae up GR, it's 2007. the turks are there, and they aren't leaving.
what is so wrong with co-existing? yes, i know some of you will point out that i livce in a country that was once owned by our native americans. and yes, we have more crime than you do in cyprus, but we have a heck of alot more people per capita. and still we manage to get along, and celebrate everyone's heritage, without having to build a wall.
the greeks are there, the turks are there. i have known both people, and they are both wonderful races. why do you have to keep bringing up something aht happened in the ottoman empire? you can't change history, so why not embrace it, acknowledge it, and MOVE ON already. it's the only way to the cypriot solution. instead, all i hear about is how this race was there first, no that one was. you both have good points. get over it, get on with it, stop worrying about it.
i love you all, the GC and the TC. i would love nothing more than to see peace, at last, and acceptance.

You wouldn't be saying that if this happened to the US.
But just like any other American what happens outside your box is ok.
And this is coming from a country which only relatively recently abolished slavery of black people.
Well done America. Primitive bunch you are.

You had a freaking Archbishop as your ultimate leader until a few decades ago (and unfortunately forced it upon us aswell), which is what something the Western world stopped doing essentially with the end of the dark age. You are the one to preach aren`t you...?

So what happened to the indigenous people of Cyprus Murataga if the GC’s are not their descendants? Did they get eaten up by the dinosaurs?

Where is the evidence of your invented theories? Did you read that in a children’s “TRNC” story book?

Here is one:

In the second half of the 13th century (BC) Cyprus suffered because of raids that were intensified and turned into devastating invasions in the last quarter of the same century.

When those disastrous events came to an end, we observe the massive arrival of the Mycenaean Greeks as permanent settlers to Cyprus, a process that started around 1200 BC and lasted for more than a century.

Now... does that sound:

originating or occurring naturally in an area or environment

or

The Greek Cypriots are the ONLY indigenous people on the island of Cyprus

or

The Greek Cypriots have a history on Cyprus spanning 10,000 years

:?:

Stop lying :!: :!: :!:

Some facts:

1) The population of Cyprus when the first Greeks came was just a few thousands people. Most of the island was uninhabited. The Greeks that came were the first to inhabit those areas and build brand new cities in them.

2) We are Greek Cypriots, not just Greeks. Unlike you who claims that TCs are pure Turks who have ancestors the Ottomans that came to Cyprus less than 500 years ago, the Greek Cypriots are the result of the assimilation between the Greeks, those few thousands of Cypriots that existed in Cyprus before Greeks came, and also the populations that some of those that later ruled Cyprus transfered to our island.

On the contrary when the Turks first came the whole island was already inhabited by us, you didn't build cities on uninhabited areas, but you occupied our own and enslaved us.

So we are the indigenous people of this island. The only way you can show that you are also part of the indigenous people, is if you can show that you are not Turks, but actually (Greek) Cypriots that changed religion under the Turkish oppression. But thats up to you to first decide if you want it, and if you do to then prove it.

It would have been somewhat more accurate if you started your post with "Some misinterpretations". The fact is that you do not qualify for the defintion of "indigenous" as given by your buddy Get real! and you are still claiming to be so:

originating or occurring naturally in an area or environment

the environment being Cyprus. You came and settled from where you were living before after some people were already here. That does not make you “originate or occur naturally in an area or environment” it makes you: originate somewhere else and arrive to Cyprus later on with ships - as settlers of Cyprus.

There may well be uninhabited parts of this island on which the Greeks settled, as there were many when the Ottomans settled, as there are many today that newcomers may settle. The fact is that neither at the time you or we came here the island was unoccupied. Even if it was completely unoccupied/uninhabited that would still not make us indigenous as we would not have originated here but arrived from our original location elsewhere- settled. The simple phenomenon of "arriving" automatically nullifies your claim of "originating or occurring naturally".

The well-documented bottom line is that: you are settlers. The rest is your interpretation based on your racist ideologies and propaganda.

Now having been properly instructed and informed try again answering the question below given that:

In the second half of the 13th century (BC) Cyprus suffered because of raids that were intensified and turned into devastating invasions in the last quarter of the same century.

When those disastrous events came to an end, we observe the massive arrival of the Mycenaean Greeks as permanent settlers to Cyprus, a process that started around 1200 BC and lasted for more than a century.

Does that sound:

or

From wikipedia on indigenousness:

"indigenous people has no universal, standard or fixed definition, but can be used about any ethnic group who inhabit the geographic region with which they have the earliest historical connection"

Between the GCs and the TCs, which ethnic group has the earliest historical connection with the island of Cyprus?

So, in conclusion, both GCs and TCs are indigenous to Cyprus, but the GCs are more indigenous than the TCs...

In fact, way more indigenous, but tell this to stupid parochial pervert Murataga, who claims that the GCs are not indigenous to Cyprus!

See the first post on this thread for the defintion of "indigineous"; not that I stand behind it... but it is what is being acclaimed wrongfully for the history and the status of GCs. And it has been exposed as such.

I have no problem with the fact and do not deny that Greeks settlers were here before the Ottoman settlers. But when you start claiming: "originating or occurring naturally", that is another ball game.

People, the reality is Turkish Cypriots have been in Cyprus for about three hundret years that is enough to qualify anyone a CXypriot. Cut the jack the reality you are here and deserve to be here just as much as a greek speaking cypriot. Who did what to whom and when is no longer relevant what is relevant how can we fix the problem we all created, because neither side is happy.

Exactly.
Anyway, I guess most of us agree that the answer to the question on the thread's subject is "YES"
