FISH PONDS

Postby Cyprus4MeSoon » Sun Jul 22, 2007 10:14 pm

OK I am on a roll now with the questions
Here in the UK we keep a Koi Pond. When we first considered coming to Cyprus, our thought was to build a pond there and transport our fish over(which we have had for several years).
On further consideration, and reading some posts we are starting to think that we may be creating problems for ourselves. i.e will the pond attract the mossies?

On my visits to Cyprus, I have not seen anyone with a fish pond, though I assume people must have them as there are companies that install them!

Can anyone, with or without pond tell me the cons of having one please.
Many thanks

No problem keeping ponds. The water in a lot of areas is very highly alkaline which as you may know will cause some problems with pond plant growth. For the most part my only problem is thinning out the prolific growth of lilies and the like from the great weather we have. A good guy to contact for all your needs is a guy called John (Idagrex ponds) at Limassol his number is 99-667338

If you keep a pool you should have fish also, as they eat all the mozzie larva. I would love a fish pond, I had one in the uk, they are so relaxing to see and hear........You also get some gorgeous dragonflies here - in all colours, they are so beautiful too, dancing on the water.....

Hi Tess, Here in the UK we keep Koi, some of them we have had for many years, we did not have thoughts of having a pond without fish
As you say they can be very relaxing, but can be very time consuming too in keeping them just right(not that I do that bit  )

They look great, but I don't want to have one in Cyprus if it will create all sorts of problems, like attracting the mozzies, and now by all accounts...Snakes!!!!!!

Fish Tank in the house sounds a good idea, rather than attracting the Snakes
