Cyprus and Cypriotism is NOT Greek!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Cyprus and Cypriotism is NOT Greek!

Postby T_C » Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:53 am

Despite this islands past some people are convinced that this island and Cypriotism still belongs to Greeks!

WRONG!!!!

Cypriotism and the Cyprus we have today is anything but Greek.

No Turkish Cypriot should let ANY GC make them feel unwelcome or feel like a mere visitor who has overstayed their visit because we've put a lot into this island!

Cyprus and Cypriots wouldn't be who they are today had it not been for the Turkish Cypriots despite what some people are brainwashed into thinking.

1) Most of the Cypriot dances (apart from Syrto and a few others) ie: Karşılama, Zeybek, Ciftetelli, Kozan, Orak, Kartal and Topal dances = Turkish!

2) ALOT of Cypriot music is of Turkish decent some of the best ones are written by RAIF DENKTASH, Raufs son (some of which are now classed as ''Greek'' with Greek lyrics!)

Halloumi = Cheese that the Ottomans brought, which wasnt even Turkish, let alone ''Greek'' (Arab cheese called Hallum) and which strangely enough is now considered the ''indigenous Greek Cypriot cheese'' Please!

The cheese we brought happens to be ''indigenous'' but the people who brought it are still ''visitors'' who belong elsewhere.

Republic of Cyprus' flag = Turkish Cypriot!

Alot of what is considered TODAY as the Cypriot identity, culture and traditions comes from US!

People like Piratis should stick to their 100 gods, Zeuss and Affrodyke and stop hijacking the culture WE have contributed greatly to and stop calling it their own...it doesn't belong solely to them and some of these things had nothing to do with them till WE brought it here yet most of these things are now classed as ''Greek'' and they've even gone as far as copyrighting almost EVERYTHING we've put in!

There is no getting away from the Turkish factor in Cyprus yet people are totally oblivious and would never know because everything is now classed as ''Greek'' including being a Cypriot. When I tell people I'm Cypriot they think I'm Greek!

Cypriots and Cypriotism of THE PAST was VERY Greek, Cypriots and the Cypriotism of TODAY is VERY Turkish influenced and ofcourse it is! The Turkish influence in Cyprus is much more recent and prominent than the Hellenists of the past but people are too ignorant to see it.

Piratis is now trying to tell me I'm destroying everything Greek when hes left almost NOTHING to the credit of the people who helped shape Cypriotism into what it is today. They've hijacked EVERYTHING and claimed it as theirs from food, music to the constitution AND the country!

Its people like this who force me and A LOT of TCs into wanting partition. If they want Cyprus to be Greek then they should first DROP everything that Turks brought and then come tell us about Cyprus being Greek...

Some of them even snub us and class us as nothing more than 'pheasants'...What exactly is a Cypriot anyways, do they know themselves? The true Cypriots WERE pheasants! Some people even seem to forget where they came from...

I'm not really that bitter about the things I mentioned but I dont want to share the same fate and be assimilated into Greekness like everything else.

I WANT to live with GCs so badly but when I hear people like Piratis I'm happy and thankfull to be where I am. I will compromise as much as I could to get any sort of split NOT to Turkify Cyprus but to live happily knowing I wont be assimilated into a Greek state with the kind of brainwashed Greek mentality that has brought my people misery after misery!

A LOT of Greeks will never accept or like Turks NOT EVEN if Turkey was to up and leave and its ok for GCs to tell me I'm wrong even if they have the best intentions but not everyone is like them and for me its just not worth taking the risk specially knowing our past.

In my opinion the Greeks lost a lot to the Turks, tried to get their hands on anything to expand their borders, the 13th island they tried to annex just happened to be Cyprus. First Britain used their D&C tactics then the Greeks completely poisoned GCs against TCs. Turkey saw the perfect chance, first fucked you over and then us! I have no doubts Turkey is here for her own reasons either, someone just last week in the TA told me that Cyprus is Turkeys ''never sinking'' warship...

Unfortunately TCs wont forget what happened to them during 63-74 and GCs will never remember so there is not much hope of a proper unification. Its all swept under the carpet and called an ''excuse'' anyways

I'm angry when GCs try to tell me that we're commiting treason when they're no different and act in the same way without a care in the world because theyre the majority!!! Everything we've put in has been forgotten and classed as Greek while we're classed as the Ottomans who destroyed Cyprus, we ended up being used by everyone from Greeks, Greek Cypriots, British and Turkey.

Well sorry but after everything we deserve peace, to be happy and some UNDERSTANDING...if you cant understand why we're bitter against Greeks and why we want to administer ourselves to begin with then I'd rather live in a Turkish province even if it means becoming a Turk in the future than become a Greek or the equivilent of a ''Paki'' in the eyes of a Brit (which we already are to most Greeks).

I'm taking a break from the forum anyways....I cant take it anymore

NOT!!!!!  I'm going to be staying in Famagusta so I wont have easy access to the internet nor the time to read and reply to posts but I'll be back in full swing as soon as I get back to the UK  :D :P :P :P :P

GR! PM me your number so I can call you about the picnic. I don't have no one elses number nor yours so PM me as soon as you see this, I wont be able to log on till next week SAT and I need to know times & dates beforehand so I can check my schedule...he he he...

 T_C, you make an excellent Cypriot compatriot and you make me proud.

The point I'm trying to make is that it all comes down to the individual and not the ethnic background. I'm not going to argue who invented which dance because I wouldn't have a clue but if they come from the Turkish Cypriots then I thank you for them. :)

GORRILLA GIMP ...STICK TO WAVING THE U.S FLAG ... PEOPLE IN CYPRUS WILL RESOLVE THEIR DIFFERNCES IF THEY WANT ...WE DO NOT NEED U.S HELP , we are more of a democracy than you will ever know ....

tukey cyp ...i state the obivious .... will the communities really get along and will it BE a short term solution .. a repeat of what we see happening in the YUGO STATES .....as i work with the U.N ...i give my views and theirs !!! MOST OF THE U.N forces now are POLICE OFFICERS AND EX CROAT/DUTCH OFFICERS FOR THAT REASON ...

also you talk out of your hairy back side ,to quote you

"Alot of what is considered TODAY as the Cypriot identity, culture and traditions comes from US! "

yes thats because you was the last dominant long term opperssors on this island before the english ... so we do take you infludence ...music wise ...we were forced to learn your "sounds and songs" ..to please the ruling ottomans ...also lets be honest you took the music you have from the Greeks who origninally lived in constantinaople ...

These things are irrelvant ...we have arabic influence and a lot of english influence too... in our language ,our infrastructure and dress etc ....

GREEK MEDICINE AND PHILOSOPHY was taught and practiced extensively for many centauries and i could say it WAS ALIVE AND WELL ON THE ISLAND ..UP UNTIL YOUR FOREFEATHERS EXPELLED THE SCHOOLS and banned anything helenic ...So pheasants ,i dont think so ......even the arabs who conquered us ...studied medicine along side Greeks

TC ...some of your other notes maybe true ...but you can not doubt ...and argue that alone the OTTOMAN/TURK /MONGOLS YOU desended from ...stiflied and prevented the Greek Culture from expanding and developing ...during those horried 400 years ...the ottomans made sure a greek island in their shadow would remain a powerful crossing point for their navies and in order to prevent a new Helenic empire ...up until pheasant power kicked in and you were booted out of Greece ..and in cyprus ..you lost control and respect and back tracked and eventually gave up and handed over cyprus to england with no fight ..

as i have said on this forum ,,i study Greek and Agean history,i read and study turkish history 2..i admire Atta TURK .. i do ...but denying that you stole and robbed the Greek Cypriot Race of their lands during that time ..then forced them inland ...taking up all the best coastal towns ...etc ...is a joke ...

even Turkish historians who came to cyprus 3 years ago at the kalavasos digs ..admitted that the GREEKS were forced inland by the ottoman thieves !!!!

Turkish Cypriot, if Cyprus of today is so Turkish anyways, then why are you afraid to be assimilated into the majority? Why did you have to ethnically cleanse Greek Cypriots, import 10s of thousands of mainland Turkish settlers, try to destroy our heritage in the norther part of our island and all the other illegal efforts you currently make in order to Turkify the part of Cyprus you currently occupy?

If you have 1 reason to be bitter, then we have 100. What are you doing about this? Continuing with crimes and illegalities against us?

I have no problem if TCs continue to influence Cyprus with their culture nor I have any reason to deny the influence the 3 centuries of Ottoman rule had on us. As I have always said TCs should be equal Cypriot citizens and they can practice their language and anything else they have unique so they can contribute positively and enrich the island. What I have a problem is when they use brute force and illegalities in order to change the demographics and what Cyprus really is and trying to gain power and land more than what proportionately belongs to them, on our loss.

So in the same way we accepted the Turkish elements that exist on our island (although they were a result of the oppressive Ottoman rule), it is time for you to also accept the rest of the history and culture of this island and you should finally allow Cypriots to democratically rule their own island.

Telling us something like: "Cyprus used to be Greek, but after my great ancestors butchered 10s of thousands of Cypriots and oppressed you for 3 centuries now it is not so Greek, and we are here to finish the job they started using more brute force and illegalities" is not something that helps to achieve peace.

If you want peace you should end the hostility and illegalities, and accept to live in Cyprus as it naturally is, with its Turkish elements and everything but without ethnic cleanings, imported Turkish settlers, changing the names of our villages, destruction of our historical heritage and foreign armies.

Surely Cyprus has Turkish influences, but obviously you are now using brute force in order to influence this island way more than that, since apparently you yourselves are not satisfied with the natural level of "Turkishness" in Cyprus and you want to forcefully increase it.

So how about we stop the war and accept what Cyprus really is without trying to force it (or part of it) to become something else? Can you handle this?

Piratis, I'm sure you don't need affirmation of your sentiments, nevertheless, I think your response is very reasonably and poignantly articulated. ... Couldn't agree more.
