Cyprus and Cypriotism is NOT Greek!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Chimera » Mon Jul 30, 2007 2:45 pm

Is it inevitable that crime increases are part and parcel of increasing population :?: Or is that an americanism :?:

Hang on! Doesn't Turkey have one of the fastet growing populations!!

Oh nohhhh, we're doomed.

more people "per capita"? What would that mean? more people per person?

In fact, the US have more crimes per capita than most other countries, is that what you meant?

no, i menat we have more people per square mile of KM, and with more people in the same amount of smace, crime does increase. it will happen in CY, as the population increases, so will the crime.

No, that's wrong too, check this list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... on_density

In the list of countries by population density, Greece is 108th, Cyprus is 105th and the US are 172th... so, more people per km² in Cyprus than the US...

that is impossible. just in NYC we have 8 million people. CY is 6 or 8 times larger than our state of Connecticut. and what is your population? i thought it was over 1 million????

The US isn't all New Yorks, there are vast areas that are almost uninhabited.
Anyway, even if you only compare cities, Athens has a much higher population density than New York.

You can't compare Athens, a city, to Cyprus, a country. Also, there are no large cities in Cyprus to compare them to Athens. But you can compare the countries' crime rate:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... urder_rate

United States: 5.9 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants
Cyprus: 1.70
Greece: 0.76

my point exactly. if the population in CY went up, comparable to the populations of either NYC or Athans, the crime rate would also increase.
more people squished into a area=more crime.

Where did you get to that conclusion from my post?!?

I told you, Athens has a much higher population density than NY and still much less crime.

To conclude, all these indexes show that you are more likely to be murdered if you live in the US than anywhere else in the world (except Iraq and Afghanistan, but again it's thanks to the US that they are exceptions)

Without sounding idealistic;
more people does not necessarily mean more crime.

It is the quality of the people that matters, not the quantity.

After all, we are not all rats.

your right but most people who are not from south or north and come to south for holiday see cyprus as a greek island and dont know about the island being split in 2
Oh yes we know we have experience it last year in our visit there. We have rented a car from a British Co. in the south our first weak there in the south was beautifully but then we cross over to see the north not welcome at all ... we later was told that we needed to rend from the north not the south so even Tourist fell the wrath from the Turks. So our suggestion do not visit Northern Cyprus will is occupied by Turks they are not friendly people
Thousands of real and neutral tourists think differently they prefer the north for its natural beauty and friendly people, commenting that the south is to commercialized just like Ibiza or other common and well used destinations, full of fish and chips and English pubs.
And from where is this tourist from? that is from what country's? is this tourist coming from the south or they come first to the illegal not recognize Northern part that is the reason perhaps treated better then us.
