Swimming pool rules

Postby k'n'G » Sat Jul 21, 2007 9:23 pm

Hi - we keep hearing about the new swimming pool regulations regarding pools for apartment blocks being cosidered as public not private pools therefore they will need a full time lifeguard on duty whenever the pool is in use and that fines will be issued if a pool is used without a lifeguard ,
how on earth could most of us afford the increase in maintanance charges,
please tell me this is not true ! if it is there must be a way around it , any ideas - thanks

Thats a new one on me.

Should it be true (which I very much doubt), then as a 'public pool', charges should be applied to the public to cover costs?

It seems that Larnaca councillors have decided to apply previously passed laws ( from 1990 something ) to the extreme .

A lot of complex residents are extremely worried about this especially as it has the potential to affect holiday rentals.

There was a big fuss on some of the other Cyprus forums because it was anticipated that other town councils would adopt the same hard line on communal pools but it seems to have died down recently and apparently no action as yet has been taken by Larnaca council.

It's only affecting complex and public pools -- the private pool on your property is ok as it isn't used by the public

No doubt someone will post a up to date idea of what's actually happening / happened -- I don't live on a estate / complex with a communal pool so I haven't personally really bothered finding out any more info

The EU rears its ugly head yet again. Another ruling which is totally impractical and if we have any sense we will ignore it. Safety first but to have lifeguards at private shared pools...please!

My friend has a swimming pool which is in a complex, he pays a monthly maintenance fee and takes great pride in the fact that it is always neat and tidy

Some holidaymaking 'Yahoos' decided to use the pool and created a considerable amount of disruption to the legal residents of the pool.

Whereupon he gave a couple of them a good boot in the arse and sent them packing.

As of yet he has heard nothing, BUT, what is the betting that he has infringed some stupid law, possibly rendering himself liable to a fine or worse?.

Absolute Madness, courtesy of the EU I suspect.

Hi Bill
It is my understanding that it is you like us being on a private complex that will be effected, only private pools ie with a villa ,house etc will be exempt !

It's true, our appartment block had a pool which is closed because of the rules about having a lifeguard.

Hi - What happened how was yours closed , and if they can close pools because of no lifeguards why does nobody else on the forum know about it , do you know what the fines are if you are caught using the pool without a lifeguard ?
And wont this effect the value of the apartments if the pool is out of bounds ?
its a bit of a worry !
