Hi

A few questions for you...

Why do you miss Scotland?
Why did you move to Cyprus?
When did you last visit Scotland?

Alassa
I can sympathise having lived in Fort William, Applecross (up over the hill North of Loch Kishorn) and Aberdeen. I note that you still call Scotland home after what you describe as many years in Cyprus.
Home for me I guess is just North of Limassol but my work has taken me all over the world & home at any one time is where I happen to be. Just now that happens to be UK but I fear it is getting worse here than ever before. The alcohol and drug induced crime is of epidemic proportions & the numbers of teenage single girls pushing prams & individuals drawing on the benefits system has multiplied beyond what I see that hard working taxpayers can fund.
Obviously you will miss the comfort factor of surroundings you grew up with and are representative of your life, together with friends & family. Perhaps an extended holiday or even working holiday to Scotland may convince you you have made the right choice & if not then there is only one course of action left. I wish you well in whatever it is you decide to do.

Hi all, thanks for the responses.

I've been in Cyprus 17 years now.

What do I miss? I guess family most of all. I'm very aware my parents are getting on in age and I've only seen them for 2 weeks of the year for the last 17 years.

I've just come back (May) from 2 weeks at home so I think that's making it more unbearable for me as its all still quite fresh in my mind.

I miss the changing weather, the people, all the beautiful places to visit, shopping in town at the weekends, Boots the Chemist!! LOL

Financially I can't afford to go back anyway so its all a pipe dream.

Oh well, here's to next year's holiday

That says it all. We have not lived in the UK for 44 years but we have never considered it as home. From day 1, "going home" meant going to where we have installed our hearth. (Interestingly, both heart and hearth are derived from the Old Germanic Herz). It would seem that you have never installed a figurative hearth in this country. I wonder why?
