82% - 18% partition solution.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

MicAtCyp,

Good to see you making contributions to the forum. I guess life has been busy for you.

I agree 100% with what you say regarding partition. I do also think that the economics of partition do not add up and also the north would become a part of Turkey or as good as.

My friend by the minute our side proposes partition the Cyprus problen IS FINISHED and the only thing left is to agree on the percentage. We will be lucky if in the end we even get Famagusta back.

I agree with this. I wouldn't propose such thing officially and I am not saying that we should at this moment. However this doesn't mean we can not discuss it in an unofficial way here. In any case I am not discussing just any partition, I am discussing only the 18%-82% kind of partition.

Besides there are economists who analysed everything and concluded that economically partition is worse that the worst solution.

I don't agree with this. Actually an 18%-82% partition, economically might be the best solution because we will have a lot more land for development, and the most stable system possible.

Also that it will lead to the complete eradication of the native TCs from Cyprus.

Siding with Turkey is their choice, so this is their problem, not ours. If they show that they are under occupation by Turkey and they want the illegality to stop, it would be a different story, but I don't see this happening.

Didnt Mr Papadop say that partition is the second best option, also called a velvet partition which is being heard of more and more from the south these days. The only difference with Mr Denktash is that it is his first option and has been what he been saying for last 30+ years.

If you have forgotten Mr Papadops words he said the he would not dissolve the RoC for a new state of affairs eg a state in a United Cyprus Republic. So is all the current Federation talk of a viable and workable plan just a load of garbage???delay tactics??, playing your cards close to your chest is one thing but not telling the UN what you really want to help us all move forward is just plain stupid.

Papadopoulos knows what he is doing and he is not going to fall in a trap again. He learned his lesson.
The "good boy" tactics failed miserably. Papadopoulos will play the game the way he wants now. He might still loose, but at least in this way we know its not going to be a set-up with a predetermined winner (Turkey). Annan can kiss Papadopoulos ass. In any case nothing will pass from the security council, the Chinese and the Russians can not be bought by the Americans.

Dear Piratis,
I think you are under estimating USA as a world power, the south is on the verge of feeling the mighty wrath of anger that super powers weild and its result eg 1974 and over estimating Mr Papadops intellect, hes on a road to nowhere, currently lost previously enjoyed world support but have to give it to him he tries to put a good face on it.
