Why not do what we're doing? The plan is save like crazy for 10 years (5 years completed now), pay off as much as we can off the mortgage, keep up to date with developments in the property market (plenty of web sites to help here), and generally get into a much more secure financial position.

I think a lot of people rush into this decision (even though its very tempting), but I would recommend just slowing down a bit and thinking things out.

Many people go to Cyprus and come back after 2 years - for a variety of reasons.

I must admit if we could afford to we'd move to Cyprus tomorrow, but we know much more than we did 5 years ago when we first came up with the idea, and the details of our planned move have changed substantially.

Best of luck with what you decide.

Thanks to everyone for your replies - sadly not the answers that we were hoping for, but then we did ask for realistic advice so thank you for being so honest! As long as we could be sure we would be able to make ends meet we would gladly make the move as we are basically living a hand to mouth existence as we are now, but from most of your replies it doesn't seem we would be able to. Looks like we may have to go back to the drawing board on this one...

I don't think you can live on 800 pounds a month...

If somehow someone does survive on that, the quality of life would be ridiculously low

Baggieboy agree with you there , and youve deffinately got a good idea, but on the other hand, property prices in Cyprus have gone up a lot in the last 5 years, so imagine how much they may go up in another 5?, in the end, it may have been a bit of a false economy.

Cant your husband work??? If he got a job too you'd be fine! It is harder for men to get jobs here but if he's got a trade he might find it easier (esp if he does a crash course on greek!)
