[tongue-in-cheek]It would seem that many here have awful spelling problems, and I certainly don't mean those of Greek or Turkish mother-tongues, who are often better than those of English mother-tongue. I cannot believe that so many have dyslexia! One word that seems to "get" many Brits is Paphos (à la rigueur, I'll accept Pafos, even though that is bastardised). I think I've seen it spelt here at least 6 different ways.

OK, Brits, let's respect English a bit more and make an effort to write it with acceptable spelling and grammar. I know you all like a challenge; this is it! [/tongue-in-cheek]

Isn't this "Pafos" is how the Greeks spell it Devil.??

Paphos is spelt 'Pafos' if you take the letters over from the actual Greek word...

But in english 'φ' is changed to 'ph' ..

It has been Paphos in English since time immemorial. The f-spelling is very recent in a stupid effort to transliterate all Greek names letter-by-letter. This is why you have abortive street names where Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy and other foreign names have been transliterated into Greek and then back into English. One of the most stupid decisions of a government not afraid to make stupid decisions. (I think they are something like Fragklin Rousebelt and Tzon Kenenti respectively - error possible).

yes I make a effort most of the time to use a spellchecker. yes I am dyslexic.

if it really bothers you so much can not just put the whole thread though a spell checker before you read it?

dyslexia is not the same thing as bad spelling. Some people don't know how some words are spelled or they are just not very careful when they type

Agia or Ayia Napa (?) Larnaca / Larnaka. You say tomato etc etc...

Wasn't it a Minister of Culture who arranged for the spelling to go back through Greek to Latin letters, that made names like Ayia become Agia, and Yermasoyia - Germosoghia. The "Ph" in English shows that the word was originally Greek.
