My dear, I have never been an example of any rule...I am always one of the exceptions...so nice to meet me...I am the first one you know who has friends from Turkey, TC, GC, Russian, Greek...and love Turkish...I admit that I used to hate them and get upset with the sound of a Turkish song...Now I even dance in their rhythm...

By the way the last few months I have spoken, meet, gone out, chat, laugh etc with TC and Turks in a daily base that can cover you absent and your friends absent.

Hi paliometoxo,

I think your english is excellent, far better than my Greek  though I am trying to learn a little for when we move to Cyprus.
I would give you the 100% on effort, which sadly I could not give myself on speaking or writing Greek! Maybe one day though

I assure you that my Greek at the moment is rubbish  But I am trying. I have Cypriot friends over there that are helping me, but I am still finding it very hard. I have a Cypriot friend in the UK, but he only speaks English to me so he is no help, and laughs when I try and practice speaking Greek to him, so I have given up!!

I sure I will get there in the end, even if it is only a few phrases to help me get by and to show that I am trying :D

So far no Turks have put their hand up. Maybe Cypriot is too hard to learn.

I will be coming over to Cyprus several times over the next few months, but do not actually move there until the end of year.
I will do as you say and practice when I am over there in the local shops and hopefully in time it will become better, or at least to the stage that I don't get laughed at

I have told my friend here that I want to practice, but he just laughs and tells me that I will never learn the language. :(
He said what a lot of people are saying on this forum, and that is, people in Cyprus speak English, and unless we are fluent in Greek, then they will speak to us in English to avoid any misunderstandings or confusion!
But I think it would still be nice to learn some basics :D

yes most people will do that jst speak to u in english. but if you tell them you understand and to speak to you in greek they will speak and ask you alot if you understand..

also theere are classes at the university you can take to learn to read and write greek if your intrested or need it, then when you feel ok to speak it better you can tell them, see how well i learn. If they laugh at your greek, you laugh at their english lol ;p
