I'm always amazed, that travellers of today still want to take a lot of cash or travellers checks on their holidays to a foreign country, where a ATM Card will solve all their problems for cash and a Credit Card for purchases of goods.. Just withdraw cash as you need it, in the local currency and don't fool around with trying to safeguard your cash and travellers checks, and run around trying to get the best exchange rate from the local merchants.

Just a thought for the inexperienced traveller.

Personally.I have always got a better deal by changing sterling with the shops on Paphos's sea front. The banks do not give you a good exchange and then also charge comission! ATM are fine but then again an awful lot of services in Cyprus are strictly cash, and the exchange rate and comission charges apply too.

best of all is put your holiday money in nationwide flex account and withdraw as you need it no charges and you get bank rates instead of tourist rate which is all ways better

Agree with jimbo1.

I opened a nationwide account before moving over here.

I use my card for cash at ATM and all my shopping.

I always get a better rate than any I've seen posted on any cyprus forum reccomending 'money huts'.

I also have a Lloyds tsb account, withdrawing CY£100 costs me £5 more than the Nationwide.
