Living abroad, exempt from tax on car purchase?

Postby Spetz » Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:14 pm

Considering purchasing a car
And I have been living 11 years abroad. By the time I actually buy the car it will be about 12

And just wondering does that mean I am exempt from tax?
Or does that mean I need to pay the tax on a car at a later stage?
And consequently pay less tax as a car gets older etc?

Also, if that is the case, any way to purchase a tax free second hand car?
Or is this only on a fresh grey import where tax has not been paid on it yet?

Thanks ;)

I'll go through that site though

Thanks :)

I was in the same spot as you back in 2002 after a 15 year absence from Cyprus so I went to the relevant govt dept/body and requested forms and info and after reading through I decided against getting a tax-free car. I know it sounds crazy but I did evaluate the matter thoroughly back then but I can't remember the details today to argue the case. Anyway, good luck with everything and do let us know how you go when the time comes. :)

I remember well that you've only got 1 year to act from the day you land but I don't recall any restrictions about numbers!
