Ergent advice needed

Postby hayley n ryan » Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:25 pm

Hi.Im moving to cyrpus from uk in less than 2 weeks. hopefully to stay for good. Can i still rent somewhere before i apply for a residency permit. Its just i know you can stay there for 3 month without one..but what if im not accepted and most accomodation requires 6 - 12 month tenency contracts. Will i have to leave and loose my bond? Could someone give me some advice on the way to go about it. Thought i had evrything covered but this has just crossed my mind..Thanks x

Hi Hayley,
what exactly are you asking?
are you looking for somewhere until your move in day or are you already renting somewhere but want to move out in to your own place?

Yes you can rent somewhere before you apply for residency. You need a rental agreement to show them when you apply. If you are an EU citizen you have the right to live here and your application will not be turned down as long as you can show that you have the means to support yourself.
Many retired people have lived here for years without applying for permanent reisdency, but you will have to do this if you are working as you need to pay into the Social Security system.

I understand that the process for registering yourself as being a resident has changed/or is in the process of being changed (if you're an EU Citizen). You still need to register and the (in)aptly named Aliens Department.

When I receive further information, I'll pass it on.

Hi Nigel, I heard a whisper that everything to do with this issue is to change this coming September.
