Oranos, I do agree that things were stolen from properties, my grandmother left the north under duress of my family at the last minute with only an overnight bag ful of clothes as she belived that is was going to all be over within a few weeks. Didn't happen...... of course we have not returned to the village to see what happened of our property and unless ther is a solution robably will not do so.

About turkish cypriots stealling or looting well I think we can safely say that some greeks speaking cypriot scum had done the same to turish speaking cypriot properties in the south. Though my understanding that turkish speaking cypriots did not leave like greek cyp's did from the north.

Whilst turkish speaking cyp's moved into our properties, I guess they had to live somewhere under the circumastances. just as refugees from the north moved into som turkish speaking cyp homes in the south. It is a messy situation but an urgent one at that.

As far as your comment about tc's wanting to live in the south, well they are not so that just speaks for itself aI guess. Howwever the RoC govo can do a lot more in terms of legislation to enable tc's to move to the south. firstly it needs to change its views on helenism , greek flag, anthem etc. secondl legislation to make violence of racism carrying hefty punishment so that tc's can feel safer to move to the south. thirdly the RoC needs to give tax benefits for turkish speaking cypriot business people to take business to sotuh so that they can come up to EU standard of business.

lastly you are rght about the US and EU membership for the nortth, laslty that would be a guarantee partition that the British would love to see.

A sensible, rational and mostly accurate reply.

So whats stopping this 40% from moving now? TRNC with all its shortcomings is still a better proposition than the South. Living as second-class citizens with minority rights no longer appeal to us TCs.

We are enjoying the security and respect as individuals in the TRNC. Who in their right mind would give all that up and move to the South.

Unless they are kinky and like to be dominated and treated like shit

I THINK ALL OF YOU SPEND TO MUCH TIME ON YOUR KEYBOARD ..I HAVE TURKISH CYPRIOT FRIENDS,I A m a MEMBER OF CIM ,....I speak to many Turkish cypriots ....business people especially ..all is not well in the north ...all of you can alk about laws and rules and this and that ..we all write our opionions and views ...my belief is stays accurate is that the north is run by a mixture of bullying and intimadation ....yes intellectals will change things .....but gangs of criminals run free ....business are taxed by special military bullies ..i have met business who can account for this
i understand that both sides have ocupied properties ....but please dont tell me that this was done on a equality basis ...also land belonging to turkish cypriots on the south has never been ,built on ...see land in larnaca ....

whislt on the north side houses have been given to everyone even to some families ...they have been encouraged to take two ...whilst ...also on the north land built on without permits ...can this be justied

i have lots of land ...in famagusta ...near the beach areas ..i look forward to removing TC from it in 2010 ..when my legal rep ..wins my case ...

urkish cyps do not get along with greek cypriots on the whole ...

I am a TC and would not live in the south..if what you say was correct all the TCs should have move into the GC state called the "RoC". Why has thta not happened?

Jesus the only way to confront your repeatitive propagandistic AGENDA is to save our replies in our computer. I told you many times the reason it did not happen IS BECAUSE WE THE GCs DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN. We want you to stay there, because if you abandon the place YOU WILL BE REPLACED BY SETLLERS.

If the RoC would not have this problem (of your been replaced by settlers) I would bet you a million pounds within 1 year we would have at least half the TCs back in the government controlled areas.

Never heard of that one before...who is telling you these stories?

Who tells me iceman????

Well I think I would better take you by the hand and visit the old TC couple who lives in my uncles house in Yerolakos, and then drive you to Mesaoria where my parental village was and you talk with TC people yourself.

Sometimes I am surprised by the tons of things you don't know they are happening in your own side, the same way I am surprised by the tons of things the GCs don't know of happening in their own area. One example is the looting of abandoned TC houses in Limassol in 1974. This is the first time I heard it, and I believe this is the first time every GC in this forum ever heard it.

Btw you haven't answered the original question:When exactly after 1974 the average Tc person started realising there was a "Cyprus Problem" that affected him directly in a way that made him want a solution?

@ Londonboy: Thanks for your reply on the matter, but that was once again a diplomatic answer. Denktash was simply talking because he was forced to talk, this doesn't mean there was a problem for him or the average TC.

Sadly my Great grandmothers house (the house my father grew up in) was knocked down, and we heard that it was because the Turkish Cypriots living in the village had got fed up with all the settlers, so to stop more settlers moving in, any houses that were unoccupied were knocked down...

(Of course this may not be the case, but it seems like a possibility).
