I guess i qualify as an eye witness but there is so much to tell i just cant put it together to write here.
Next time we meet face to face i will tell you all about it.(i mean ALL,looting i saw in Limassol & Kyrenia)
As you know I am from Limassol and as we moved to north in Semptember 1974 we lived in relatives houses in Nicosia till November then were rehoused in Kyrenia...I have seen looting of all sorts after 20th July 1974 and i will tell you many stories but believe me,my first experience of looting horor was the state of my own home in Limassol when we returned there on the 22nd of July..
You needed a witness to tell that house,with all its new furniture was only finished two months prior to July 1974..
Anyway,as i said,the story is too long to write here and i dont have that sort of time to put it into writing.next time we meet,i will tell you everything i saw...

Why nobody mentions what the TCs were doing to avoid having settlers becoming their next door neighbours? Why no TC in here tells the truth that they were demolishing empty GC houses to avoid having settlers getting in and becoming their neighbours?

My uncle was recently in Cyprus from Australia. He told us that he caught up with a turkish speaking cypiot friend of his who now lives in the trnc. His friend told him that there is a diferentiation between tc's and settlers and he did say settlers are resented for this very same reason that they were given property freely whereas tc's had to show they abandoned property in the south to get exchange in the north.

This has been covered many times before in this forum - but I guess reading the above would indicate that we started it all.

Of course you did not started it all my friend. I m perhaps of one of the few GCs who acknowledges that the GC fanatics bear more responsibility than your fanatics.

This was for our own protection, not the other way around (and why would you want to step foot inside our 'ghettos' as you put it ?).

Please, please…. This is propaganda-or at least one side of the story.Tell me what threat a drunk GC constituted to you when he lost his way and entered your enclaves my mistake. Do you know how many GCs were slaughtered after they lost their way and entered your enclaves? Do you know how many GCs vanished after they tried to cross a purely TC inhabited village??
The truth is the TCs were afraid to travel in GC areas, however the other truth is that a GC was not only afraid to enter an nclave he was SURE he would not come out of it alive.

I would say the problem started in the 60's

OK. The original question however was
a)Was the problem over in 1974 +30 years later for the TCs?
b)When exactly after 1974 the TCs realised they are having a problem regardless their grabbing of 37% of Cyprus.

My view is that :

a) the conflict was over in 1974 and there has been relative peace for the last 33 years, the 'problem' however still remains.

b) there have been negotiations between the two community leaders from 1974 at fairly regular intervals so as I said above, the problem was there all the time - it never went away, it was never solved on a permanent basis.

That is correct..And the great majority of TC's (including myself) are angry that these settlers were given the right to sell these properties!!

thank you for being a person with integrity to admit to that fact, iceman. it is disappointing in that the leadership is allowing this to happen. personally I think there are mistakes made on oth sides in relation to inequalities of different kinds and I believe it is time to sit down together and discuss issues that will lead us to unfication.

please ,,,all of my family are from areas in the north ...turkish cypriots moved into all of our properties ,,made updates and stole the property inside ....and sold some of it ...Zan you are a joke ,...TC govern,ment brought over turkish gypsie savages and placed them into key areas and in gc property ...i know TC who were thrown out of their propeties to give the properties to the denktash voting scum from TURKLAND ..

the gypsies and turks form turkey have and had more rights ...the tc military ,...brought them over because the U.N in the 70s could not justify giving the turks such a huge area of land for a tiny minority ...so the turks sent over some 50000 criminals and inbreeds over a 15 year period ..

I am a TC and would not live in the south..if what you say was correct all the TCs should have move into the GC state called the "RoC". Why has thta not happened?
