(NOt) Villawagens Tip of the Day

I am told that the Cyprus pound exchange rate with the Euro will be .585274 (cents) when Cyprus goes 'Euro', so if you can buy them at a better rate between now and 31/12/07, you should do so.

PS I apologise for no reference to talcum powder or crisp packets being included in this tip.

I think if you buy it now you have to pay the charges, but on Jan 1, 2008, all cyprus pound will be automatically converted into euros, you don't have to pay the charges.

Lana, it is already locked at that rate. Buying euros now might even become a disadvantage, unless you have foreign currency overseas and buy euros at a better price and sell them in Cyprus.

from what i hear on the grapevine, although a reliable one...

salarys will still be paid in cyp until the 31st december, after that the euro is the pay method. and that is what you will be taking out of the bank/cash machine

the end of january will mark the day that the cyp will be an unrecognised currency.

rumor has it that carrefour will be marking the prices down to the nearest equivelant as opposed to many other shops (both cyprus and other countries that joined the euro) marking up.

in my humble opinion, the euro is a bad thing. speak to anyone from any country that has joined the euro. they will keep you talking for hours how much they don't like it, best way to destroy an economy etc.etc.

house prices are already believed to increase 20-30% as soon as the euro is introduced.

wonder when it will be that the average salary will increase to match????

carrefour will be rounding down their prices yeah, but they are saving a lot more from not having to exchange pounds for euros. so in the end they end up with more profit.

so much for setting a good example hehe

I have heard many stories of how the euro is bad... many countries want to return to their previous currency..

also i believe having your own currency also gives the country it's own character.. :)

"A poll by Stern magazine released 1 June 2005 found that 56% of Germans would favour a return to the Deutsche Mark."

"Members of the Northern League, a northern Italian separatist political party, have discussed calling a referendum to return Italy to the lira."

"Members of the right-wing Movement for France political party have proposed holding a referendum to return France to the franc."

Taken from Wikipedia.
