villawagens tip of the day day 11

Postby villawagen » Wed Jul 11, 2007 5:42 pm

when going out for a meze with your friends or relatives, keep an empty crisp packet in your pocket. when the waiters start bringing the food out, place one of each item in the crisp packet that you now have placed between your legs.

then when you leave the restaurant you just look like you are carrying a bag of crisps, rather than making you look like a scrounging, fat, greedy git who has helped himself to the left overs

ps
i have never done this before  honest !!!!

It'd have to guess that it would be hard to disguise going into the restaurant empty handed and then leaving with a bunch of unusually heavy bags of crisps (er, if the food is good).

Isn't the reluctance to take food home from a restaurant a British cultural thing?

yes you have hit the nail on the head my friend, it is indeed a British thing !!
its a sort of taboo for some reason to ask for a doggy bag, coz that's what Americans do and as you know most of them are fat gits

as for the crisp packets yet there are restrictions, but its better than shoving the meat down your underpants

Especially if it has lemon juice on it! I hope you're keeping your leftovers to yourself...

well us greek cypriots we do it to.... you dont need to hide the food in crisps packets thats not good trying to hide food put it under table... i have no english blood in me all cypriot family and we do it when we go eat sea food ask for a tray to take it away... and none of us are fat.. we just liked the food so much and there is loads keft over for when we get hungry later.. nothing wrong

Nice way of thinking though British,, maybe in england its shame to ask but here its ok ;p

In Cyprus a restaurateur would be honoured if you asked to take the rest of the food home. Unless he was planning to reheat it and serve it to another customer (which I have seen happen in a fish restaurant). :)
