i hate all these ads that advertise the "new GERMAN ford focus"

what a bunch of bullshit. ford is an american company, and a shitty one at that. i dont know whether they are made in germany, but even if thats the case, i dont see no ads about Singapoor"ian" mercedes, or mexican mercedes, or chineese i dont know what

what a joke. i've been meaning to call them for a while but i always forget

Ah, they are just trying to jump on the "excellence in machinery" bandwagon. Make people start linking Focus to BMW and Mercs basically (although my friend's £40k BMW is in and out of the shop like no tomorrow, while my other friend's £18k Focus ST has had no problems at all).

Saying that, I loved that report I read in a mag once about how Range Rovers were made somewhere in the UK and then rolled out to a garage 2 miles down the road. But they also rolled some out of the same factory (same conveyor belt infact I believe) as left hand drive cars and sent to Germany for sale too. Apparently even with all the cost of going to Germany, buying the same car there, getting it converted to right hand drive, and then bringing it back to the UK and all that goes with getting it on the road, it would still be cheaper (by a fair bit) than buying it from the garage 2 miles down the road from where they build it. Nice. Plus apparently the salesman in Germany is likely to take you for a drink or meal to discuss your purchase. Tops. :)

Cheers

Ford have a huge factory in Cologne(Köln) and have been building cars there since at least the 70s, and possibly longer.

Whether they're any better than cars built elsewhere that is a different question...but in the 70s at least, they were probably better than anything that came out of Dagenham..

When Soviet Union collapsed, my father went to Germany and got himself a Ford Granada II... what a wicked car that was :D Really solid and very reliable... :)

Anyway, i cant compare todays auto industry with the past... new models popping out every couple of years, you can find one engine and chassis shared in dozen of brands. Generally its all crap anyway...

I can remember back when the component parts started to come from Germany to Dagenham and all the UK factories where closing. It was then that every one started to complain about how much more alternaters and other parts cost. This was in the 70S.
