The GCs rejected that idea and nothing has been put forward since.

Just typical of you VP, the guy asks a simple question and you have to turn it into an arguement.

I could say more, but then i'll just be doing the same thing. Leave that for another thread mate.

Because of language, tradition and religious matters it is difficult to see there being anything other than a two school system continuing.

Because any prospect of re-unification seems to involve a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation then at grass roots level I imagine policing in the GC Zone would be carried out by GC police, and in the TC Zone by TC police, with some form of joint Federal Police to deal with matters that cross both zones, are international in scope or are serious enough to justify a top down approach. This model is used in most federal states.

This might be a good subject for Talat/Papadopoulos to speak about if they meet, because there can be few people who object to the police of both sides co-operating in eliminating serious crime and it is one area where we can all benefit regardless of political views.

Paliometoxo, welcome

Although a long shot to re-unification, I would suggest that at the beginning we will probably have separate police, due to language barriers but as time goes by where all children at all school are taught both languages we can move to have mixed police, education ought to comprise of a united department of education teaching all children in all school both languages, as far as religion well that would be an individual choice and there needs to be churches, mosques, temples and other appropriate religious buildings for people to express their own personal relationship with God. Personally i would like to see a Bahai Temple built. I would also appreciate an opportunity for a child of mine to learn both languages and more.

I really like Kikapu's suggestion for a BBF so have a read of that and hopefully you will get a better idea about how a UNITED Cyprus will look like.

However, a great deal of what it would look like depends on us as individuals and our desire to create a Cyprus for Cypriots and that we begin to break down the them and us. When we achieve that we wil achive a great country that people will aspire to live at.

Hello Paliometoxe.
Welcome to this wonderful forum, the meeting place of many ideas. I for one, would not mind my young children learning the Greek language. (too late for me now) Only ignorant people would deny this to their children. In my younger days I was rather excited that I was going to learn proper greek at secondary school. You should have seen my disappointment when the year I joined the secondary school, some misguided 'patriots' took it off the curriculum. I saw this as a backward step. I wanted to give up my 'village' greek and be more fluent.
Does anybody remember if Turkish was taught in GC schools around the 1960's? Is Anybody old enough to remember (unless alzheimers has already set in.)
Regards
DA

thanks for the welcome.. :)
yes i have noticed most turkish can speak english greek and turkish.. my perants where alive in the 60's but they never said anything of learning turkish in the schools i know my mum ws learning french and english..
That would be nice to have turkish as a second language teaching both in schools with the gC side learning turkish as a second language and turkishC's learning greek as a second. I am only 24 but i still doubt i will see resolution in my life. maybe My Grand children Will see this bright future. at the moment i sill see to much hate between the two sides. Espesially on some web sites such as youtube where there are videos on the war and many pictures but the way the users scream and shout at eachother.
