what if there is peace?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hey GR,

We're in the ''beginners'' camp in Famagusta where everyone starts off their military. You're usually there for upto 2-4 weeks, then you swear to protect your country at some sort of celebration which we did today and thats when youre classed as a soldier. Then you get sent to other camps to start your NS properly...in my case I will be sent HOME! :D

im currently trying to persuade my son to take turkish as one of his options. i believe that our youngsters should be taught each others cultures and not brainwashed or sold a one sided story. i have no problem with any race but i have a major problem with extremists such as vp. i respect both gc and tc comments but get frustrated with the morons that will not accept anothers views. i have no doubt that both sides were to blame but thats human nature. Stories of rape and murder infuriate me but it unfortunately happens in every war. i do not condone it but it will unfortunately continue to happen. Human nature.

i am one of the newer members to the forum and have witnessed a change in a lot of attitudes for the better, certainly after the recent flo meeting, for which i once again congratulate the attendancees. i have also realised that many of you that are extremely knowledgable to the cypro, bite back at comments that we know are true but because its anti their side bring up something else. human nature again.

will one of you more knowledgable ones ever stand up and acknowledge your sides attrocities? or am i being naive or stupid?

maybe in the future but i dont see it happening anytime soon... but the girls in the south i seen some say ohh hes a cute turkish boy.. the older ones would never date a turkish guy.. most people say to her you should be ashamned to like a turkish boy or even learn the language... i think a lot of families would hate their children to learn turkish maybe 100 years from now it will be like that as you say...

Thats only your opinion, I believe any parents wouldn't mind their kids learning Turkish in Cyprus as a second language. If anything I think they would prefer Turkish over German, French, Chinese, Spanish. And if they are against the Turkish language, they shouldn't be looking for a solution either.

It’s extremely difficult to be 100% impartial and that’s something made even worse if you’ve experienced hostilities.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone who really knows all details of their side’s atrocities because nobody could’ve possibly been in more than one location at any given moment to have a true picture of the whole affair so I guess we all know bits and pieces of information.

One can talk about what they experienced but it wouldn’t be fair if readers were to then assume that everyone else on their side experienced the same. Some people were tortured and/or killed by the enemy while others were given food and water! It was a mess. :(

i think thats a little short sighted paliometoxo. bad things happened on both sides. i myself lived in kyrenia in 74, i used to commute to nicosia on a daily basis and attended the grigoriou junior school. i was one of the fortunate ones that was shipped to the uk when the war started. i remember tc kids coming to our home, there was never any animosity between the communities, of course this was through the eyes of an 8 year old. from the little knowledge i have about the cyprob, i believe that outside powers created the problem, and neither tcs or gcs had a real choice in what took place.

saying that we have had the greek empire, the ottoman empire and now we have the american empire. has anything really changed.

My aunt visited the soldiers' graves with her students from school on one occasion and they came across a GC lying flowers down. They couldnt resist going upto him to ask why he was there. He told them that that particular soldier had seen just how scared he was, had hidden him in the house he himself was staying and helped him escape the next morning.

He had the soldiers name so he tried to look for him when the gates opened but found out he had been killed so he found his grave and laid flowers down.
