whilst I've no idea of the exact number there are quite a lot of Turkish Cypriots living in Larnaca and Limassol and I presume Nicosia.

Also there are Turkish workers crossing the checkpoint everyday to work in the south.

I doubt very much if Greek workers would be able to do the same and cross over to the north for work and with the exception of Fanos probably wouldn't want to anyway.

I wouldn't like to speculate that TC's living in the Republic do so entirely trouble free ( most I have spoken to say there is no problem ) they certainly don't have the problems that a GC would have living in the north

in 1995 there were 362 TCs living in the South, mostly in Larnaca I believe. There are probably a few more now but if it approaches 1,000 I would be surprised.

There are probably about 500 GCs living in the North, mostly elderly. There were restrictions on them in the early days, but I think that there are no restriction now. This number excludes the Maronites who probably number a couple of hundred.

Lets not get confused here.....There are a lot of Turkish speaking Gypsies living in the ROC...These people either remained in the south after 1974 and moved into the empty houses of Turkish Cypriots or came to the North in 1974 were housed in GC refugee properties just like TC refugees but some ended up selling these properties and moving back to the south to either claiming TC properties or benefits from ROC government....They are being used for ROC propaganda...

Funny you mentioned that. I read it as well that the General (Head of the occupation forces) over there has splurted out that he considers Cyprus the ancestral home of the Turks and that so far the Turks have only liberated half of the island. The rest needs to be liberated as well.

I'll dig up the article and post it.

Ignore him DT. He probably came from the same school where they tell you that Turks descended from the Hittites. Now where did I hear that? Scythians more likely, but Hittites!!
Going off a tangent again?
