If I knew I would get a straight answer, and that would be the final one,I would do that, halil gardash...Sometimes it is best policy to let sleeping dogs lie,and walk around them...My bitter experience is that it is very difficult to solve ur problems from a distance with trnc bureaucracy...The only way to solve it would be the "cash through or crash" method... Thanks for your help though...much appreciated...

I have the same problem with O2 and my mobile phone. They will not give me straight answer as to which is the cheapest tarif. Thank god I put in the work and asked because I have got a great deal now.

Working case:
My brother is 56 and went to Cyprus for the first time last year since 1964. He was told that he would have to come back to Cyprus within the year to do his service...without fail. Of course he had the option to pay as well. He is quite ill and was also told that if he sent in the relevant papers he would not have to serve or pay.

I read it and I resonated with the piece of writing. What I see is a Cypriot with love and passion about being just that. A foresighted person who wishes for his people to come together. I would like to meet this individual and shake their hand. I am a Cypriot and I care about evrything he/ she has written.

Thank you my friend for all that you have said.

BK, I will find out for sure from my friend in Asal Sube when I contact him by this weekend. All I can say for sure at this time is:

- Your exit permit from 1999 would be applicable if it says so, but it would definitely be until you are 49+ of age according to current laws. If you are under 49, at worst you would have to apply for a fresh one (i.e "erteleme") The requirement according to the info disclosed is that if you are over 49, there is no room for any further postponement of service, and you must apply to do it within the next 24 months (i.e. 2 years). Many people who are 50 and over suffer from one kind of illness to another, most of which can be used as as excuse for being exempt from the 3 months service.

What I can guarantee you is; if you apply before you arrive in Cyprus (to save delays at this end) and ask to join the army in Spring, you can travel few days before the training starts, pay £1500 and have fun for a month, learning how to shoot straight and doing exercises. Being an elder you would be treated with respect at all times. When I did my training at "Gulseren", which is what you'll be doing for the duration of your 1 month service, it was as fun as a TV soap opera! Of course it becomes more tedious and strict when you finish and are allocated to a division for the rest of your service - but that will not apply to you, because the training itself is a month and you'll be finished before then!

- If you enter the South as a tourist from Australia and crossed into the TRNC, it is not the job of the police-guards to check if you have done your military service or not. For all they are concerned, you could be returning or going for a day-trip. The only problem is of course, if an eagle eyed police notices your birthplace as Cyprus, your name Turkish, and your port of entry Larnaca, they might decide to make some enquiries there and then. It is now all computerised in TRNC so they'll soon find out if you've done your service or not pretty quickly. PROBLEM!

If you think its worth the chance then do it, but you would not be made as welcome as you would have had you opted for the first choice I provided above. You are likely to get away with, it but what if......

If you do have any other illnesses other than going mental in CF, then get the right paperwork from the medical authorities in Australia and you would not have to pay and/or do any service, but will be issued a permanent exemption certificate that you can use on all your travels. If you are not sure whether your illness is considered serious enough for an exemption, send me a PM and I can find out for you.

I said many times the TCs have done FATAL mistakes over the years. The first fatal mistake was their Taksim dream, the second the settlers, the third the selling of GC properties to foreigners.
How about the fatal mistakes of GC's? would you like to list some of them also or shall i?
We know by now, blaming the other side got us no where till now,the fact is,WE both made fatal mistakes and unless WE both start admitting them WE will not achieve any progress..
The only thing I regret in my life is being born... :)
I dont mind the fact of being born but why,why did we have to be born in Cyprus into this mess?? Could we not have been born else where in the world where people have more solvable daily problems instead of this lifetime lasting shit!!
ICEMAN: Please inform me of a country with no problems. (and not UTOPIA, that doesnt count)
Regards
DA

Thanks Zan...The picture is getting clearer and clearer...
What do you say if we take 3 months out of our lives and go and do the full service together????

Who knows you and I might even find a way to solve Cyprob while we are at it.... :)

I will consider all my options seriously...And as I hate leaving things to chance, crossing from the South will probabaly be my last option...Cheers,mate....

You really need to visit the TRNC to refresh your views and get a feel for the current situation and lack of progress, the saying in the north is "we are better off as we are"...the undertones are very stron in this message for those that want to understand the realities of the situation.
