People are loosing their life savings, some are ending up living in what would be considered condemned building in Europe because of poor build quality. Those TCs that the land were given to because they had left land or property in the South are selling at prices and earning the kind of money they could only dream of.
I know people who couldn't run a bath let alone a business now living in palace like houses with a dozen top of the range Mercs, BMs, Porsches, Hummers you name it they fucking got it. All this by selling land that dont even belong to him. Its just not fair and a damn right insult to hard working decent TCs.
The government is ultimately to blame for all this. I wouldn't blame the poor Brit who has invested all his life savings for a decent retirement home, most were told the land their house was built on was exchanged with the Greek owner in the South, documents provided by the TRNC confirmed this. I say again blame the government not the poor individuals.
I would also point the finger of blame on the ROC too, they didn't help matters to say the least.
mrfromng,
I like it a lot when you make posts as above.
I do not feel sorry for anyone investing in so called "exchange land". If the investor is not willing to ask questions as to who the rightful owners are, because they know damn well it is not legal and they do not want to hear the truth, therefore they don't ask any questions. The same people would spend thousands of pounds in the UK, through their lawyers to get all the information on the property they want to buy, and the moment something is a problem after purchase, they are suing the lawyers and anyone else, so these people are not "rookies", they are just hunting for cheap deals at other peoples expense and misery, so if solution comes, I hope they lose their underwear as well as their shirts, because they know at least of the political problems in Cyprus and that the "TRNC" is not a recognised state. Perhaps they shouldn't listen to people like VP with this kind of statement.

It is comments from people like VP that the foreigners get the encouragement to buy "exchange land".
By the way, there is no such thing as "exchanged land".
As for tessintrnc comments, I agree with her, but still blame the buyers and the sellers, if selling "exchanged land", because these same people are still the registered owners of their own land in the South, even though they may have given their land deeds to the "TRNC" authorities, to be used as Exchanged Land sometime in the future, if ever, as part of a peace deal with the RoC..
tessintrnc wrote:There are 2 issues going on here, one is the buying up of Greek Cypriot land and the other is the shoddy workmanship and pre-mortgaged lands issue. No, I dont agree that people should buy Greek Cyp land in the North. The other issue is the quality of the buildings - some of which are built on pre 74 Turkish Cyp or foreign owned land. With regards the cost and the "freezing" out of local people, yes I agree that this is going to cause problems in the future. One of my friends Turkish Cyp neighbours gave her son a piece of land when he turned 21, she thought he would try and have -with the help of his family, a house built. What did he do? He sold it and bought a flashy CAR......... You cant blame anyone else for that - and I hear it is happening over and over again, family land being sold off without a thought for the future. Dont always blame the buyer.......the root of the problem is with the seller. Tess
Foreign owned Land.??????????
