I apologise humanist if you took offence at my last post but the feeling in the north is that the GCs do not and have never wanted a solution, their inaction and rhetoric confirm and perpetuate this feeling. The level playing field is the only way forward where TCs can see concrete changes that will benefit everyone proving that unificaition is better than division. At the moment division is the safer bet.

VP thank you for the apology. Calmness and respect from all of us to all of us will achieve greater results. Thanks again. Greek speaking Cypriots generally feel disillusioned and feel that they will not get to return to their homes. Thus despondent about the whole thing. Yet they are not ready to let it go either.

My understanding VP is that Talat has been the one stalling July 8th agreement talks. However, I believe he may be ready to resume after his disappointing meeting with EU leaders recently.

Greek speaking Cypriots will agree on BBF with right of return and demilitarisation of the Island.

There have been a couple of sugestions on this forum of recent about what it might look like. BBF like US was posted by Kikapu and BBF based on german model by another memmber I am not sure who. Both sound fair systems one United country. Perhaps our leaders need to use thse two examples as beginning steps toward solution.

Your last coment about division is best for now ... I doubt it as your community is still faced with economic embargo after 33 years and it doesn't look like it is going to change anytime soon. So the sooner we start talking about unifying at least the economic domain to bring you up to EU standard my guess would be a good starting point also.

The current divide is perpetuated by GC policies which fuel TCs desire for a separate state, cant you see this? If those policies were fo leveling the playing field on both sides then TCs would not view GCs as people who do not want to share equally this island of ours.

GCs have to realize that they will not all be going home, some will have to settle for compemsation and some will not want to live in the TC state under a BBF.

Perhaps I should define “enemy” Iceman. Personally, I find that anybody who aims to violate the sovereignty of Cyprus to be an enemy of Cyprus.

A violation of her sovereignty includes, but is not limited to, any form of political arrangement that dissolves the republic's authority across all four corners of her land mass.

Hi Halil,
I got the impression from our last meeting that division suits you (Halil) best. Did I misunderstand you?
G_R what i understood from goings: they are will be 2 states as far as i can see. the ideas far away between 2 sides. The way the Papadobulas directing us will divide the island. it will help for the TAKSİM.....
i heard that he call the Talat for the meeting. For me it is a only taktic for the presential election .he wants to get your votes only. after election he will be same Papadobulas. He can not change.
here what i have read from the turkish press i don't know what your site writind about meeting......

the proposal includes similar views expressed in previous proposals tabled by the Greek Cypriot Administration and that instead of referring to the basic issues concerning the Cyprus problem, the proposal only concentrates on some issues.`The proposal envisages a meeting between Talat and Tassos Papadopulos` is the only thing new in it.

any way i am having a nice holiday...... sometimes i am chekging the forum.,,,,,, still same...... hate !!!! hate !!!!!!

I’m very happy for you :D Some things never change I suppose… :(

Bellek is nice place....... u and DT must visit this place, too many Russion lady around....... nice food and drink.

What’s the Greek name for Bellek? Russian women eh? DT is not the only one that you should visit this place! İ am sorry for the spelling it should be BELEK. U well come for Russin women....... lot's of them.....

Historical Belek
In neighboring regions, there is the Hellenistic / Roman city of Perge, which is rated second after Ephesus and the great amphitheater of Aspendos that still today can hold nearly 15.000 viewers. Nearby as well are the fantastic Manavgat Falls and the Roman city of Side with its large amphitheater. Only a few miles to the west is Antalya with its surprising harbour and ancient city and where Turkish handicrafts that have begun to be recognized internationally can be bought.
Short tours : visitors are taken to ancient Burdur, the Roman city of Termossosa that is located in the high mountains above Antalya and was founded by Alexander the Great in 333 BC. The Hellenistic city of Olympus is also in this region. http://www.belektourismcenter.org/eng/index.htm

When u meet the turks from turkey i bet your views will change u can see it with your own eyes how civilised and nice people they are.... it is always good to come face to face . Am i wrong ?

I don’t find the modern Turks uncivilized but I really do wish their government would leave Cyprus. When the right time comes they will leave. not only they will leave also Greece and U.K

I would like you to please tell me what policies you are referring too one by one so that I can understand your point of view.

secondly I think that if we are talking about unification then we need to be talking right of return to all those who wish to return. You are right not all will want to live in the north. (However if you have seen my posts I am actualy arguing that the TC state north or whatever you wish to call it ought to be at current size with green line being a peace park accross the Island). That is imperative that thr RoC ought to have a register for those who do not wish to return and are happy for compensation so that that land can be placed aside for those TC's who do not wish to return to the south state, hence making it more fair for those who wish to return.

Personally i know of many who will not return because they have settled in the south build new homes and are not interested in returnng, many others who live overseas will also accept compensation. But that needs to be a choice and not forced upon them.

Anyway VP ideologically/ spiritually I do not think the Turkish speaking Cypriots have come to the point of unification hence the problems we face today. And as is evident in this forum the only reason we are talking of BBF is because TC's have not manged to get partition and it looks like it is going to be very difficult for that to be the case in the near future. This is buy no means a criticism but an observation of mine

Re: Annan plan’s failure not a pardon for Turkey

joe wrote:Annan plan’s failure not a pardon for Turkey

EUROPEAN People's Party President Wilfried Martens sent a clear message yesterday that the failure of the 2004 referendum on the Annan plan did not mean Turkey has been pardoned from its continued military occupation of Cyprus.

Speaking at a joint press conference with DISY President Nicos Anastassiades, Martens noted that “our common objective is none other than a unified Cyprus in a united Europe”.

“The continuing division of the island is a tragic anachronism and one which we are unwilling to accept,” he pointed out.

He reassured of “EPP's unwavering support” and noted “our very clear position that the failure of the 2004 referendum does not mean that Turkey has been pardoned from its continued military occupation of Cypriot territory.”

“This was expressed in the resolution on Cyprus, presented by DISY and adopted by the EPP Congress in Rome in March 2006, which inter alia calls on the Turkish authorities to effect an early withdrawal, pursuant to the relevant UN resolutions, of its forces within a specific timetable, and calls on the Turkish authorities to show their constructive attitude in finding a settlement of the Cyprus question, leading to an equitable solution, based on the relevant UN resolutions and on the principles upon which the EU is founded,” Martens said.

He furthermore praised the “catalytic role” of DISY in efforts to reach a peaceful and lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue.

Anastassiades praised the role of EPP in efforts to solve the Cyprus problem and the adoption of the Democratic Rally's positions on the Cyprus problem.

“When others, after 2004, kept silent, the EPP and President Martens never ceased to deplore the occupation of northern Cyprus by the Turkish army. They never ceased to be the most steadfast supporters of a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem. And we will continue to depend on the support of EPP until we achieve our aim for a reunited Cyprus, without troops, a common homeland for all Cypriots,” he concluded. (CNA)

Back padding and more back padding, appraises, compliments blah blah blah! And dinners with wine afterwards...

Who gives a shit what "Christian brothers" of EU say about Cyprus problem, and/or Turkey's position? By now it has became blatantly obvious to any TC and Turk that EU despises anything that is related to Muslim religion or a secular state of Turkiye that represents it in a better light!

The only interesting bit for me would be the last sentence. So they have continued to support the GC ruled South all this time - and what has that changed after 33 years? You think anything will change within the next 33 years by EPP's support? Try the support of Turkiye and TCs and you might get to a solution a lot faster!

In any case, how many of our GC compatriots who responded to this thread really believe in the last bit that mentions "aim for a reunited Cyprus, without troops, a common homeland for all Cypriots"? From what I have read in this forum for the past 3 months - not many are willing to accept that without starting to blabber about the "Greekness" of the island and the Greeks being the right owners. On the other hand, TCs always supported withdrawal of the troops one a solution is reached - so what's the problem?

SOME PEOPLE MUST STOP DREAMING AND GET ONE THING THROUGH THEIR STUBBORN HEADS - THERE WILL BE NO REDUCTION IN NUMBERS OR WITHDRAWAL OF TURKISH TROOPS FROM CYPRUS, UNTIL A FINAL SOLUTION IS AGREED ON, BY ALL PARTIES CONCERNED.

I know many will hate me for saying the above, but I do believe if people stopped going on about Turkish troops and Turkish occupation, and concerned themselves more with finding a workable solution for all Cypriots to live together in peace we might get somewhere quicker. Otherwise what EU says does not worry or scare Turkey or TCs, their "use by" date has also expired, and EU has long ceased to be a carrot in front of these "donkeys"!
