Merkel calls Greek Cyprus' EU membership mistake

( Cihan ) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the EU membership of Greek Cyprus was a mistake.

Speaking at the German Parliament Merkel said that there was no improvement on Greek Cyprus' state during the presidency of Germany.

The chancellor stressed that there have been no changes in the policies of both Turkey and Greek Cyprus during the negotiations and that this had been a criteria showing that countries with unsolved internal issues should be accepted to the union only after the problems are solved.

Merkel said that negotiations with an 'open end' would continue with Turkey.

On the other hand, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn spoke at a press conference in Berlin and said that progress in negotiations on chapters was as important as the final membership goal for Turkey.

Rehn also said that the union needs to convince Turkey that it was serious about the membership negotiations.

Angelikoulla Merkel, mistake ksi-mistake, Cyprus is now a member of the EU, and is none of your competencies to claim so or determine otherwise, any longer!

Cyprus was unanimously accepted in the EU, by the council, the commission, the parliament and each and every single EU member state’s government and parliament (including that of your own country!) Cyprus is now a member of the EU, digest it and behave, otherwise we may choose not to cooperate so fervently with the policies your government may wish to pass in the EU!

Angelikoulla, we know and sympathise with your secret fantasy to have one night stands with invaders and violators like Turkey, but please behave!

The results of the RoC's reluctance to work for a solution after the AP rejection are surfacing...
Cyprus may be a member but it cannot afford to make enemies, especially Germany. I hope the next president of the RoC will realise this and revive the talks because time is running against us

He probably wrote something stupid, and then on second thought he decided it is better not to cross swords with Kifeas.

Alexiss, "the wet is not afraid of the rain!"

We are prepared to sign an alliance with devil, if this is what it takes, but we will never "seat" for neo-ottoman Kemalofascist Turkey and its "friends!"

Kifeas, working for a solution is not treason! Besides, fear of the rain depends on how wet you are, and I believe Cyprus could be much worse (wetter)...

The more wet we become, the lesser the chances Turkey has!

So should Cyprus worsen her own condition so that there is nothing left for Turkey to do to harm you?
