Most of the comments here r puzzling. I have been in Kypros before, and I am going for a holiday end of November. I have met very few to 0 + or-. I would not think it much to do with language as English is the world language today. Could be not wanting to waste time on something that just will not be fruitful. : :(

THE BIG SECRET-

From Nicholas Gage's book ELENI, he asked his uncle who had lots of success with Greek women back in the 40s what the secret was. The response was

"being able to tell which ones want it" in other word know the signs.

As a Cypriot I can tell you that you must know the signs of that interest. The signs can be more subtle than you expect, they were that way in England too not so long ago. But if you are not into giving that matter time and effort then you deserve what you get.

As far as thelanguage thing, there is that line from Garagoz, the shadow theater, that goes like this:

"There is no lacridi in a foreign language" lacridi being pillow talk in which language I know not.

Let's see, you've got me thinking. Isn't PILLOW Talk the title of an amazing short story (Nadine Gordimar?) about a Danish au pair in London. Now I doubt sincerely one can look at anyone and tell they are "ready." Sorry. But you are trying to tease me abit about knowing what to look for. You must have some hints?

Blueshen,

No you cannot tell everything all the time from just a look. But here is an example from real life.

Hazel walks flustered into an elevator. A man says hello Hazel, she looks startled but her eyes fix on the speaker's friend. The speaker introduces friend- Hazel this is Richard. Hazel lets out a crytal laugh. She walks out straight after as the elevator reached her office floor, laughs again and waves at Richard. A tall phlegmatic Englishman at the back of the elevator comes to life and comments: "that laugh sounded like falling knickers to me". He knew the secret.

It is so cold here already that a falling knicker would be fatal. And that you agree is not a good idea. Thinking about these things. How can you tell the girl is Cypriot anyway. I have a Russian student who says she can spot a Russian at 30 metres! She has pointed this out to me a few times, but person looks normal to me.

I havn't read the rest of this thread, so I've got no idea what it's about.only clicked on it cos it had pretty pink thing next to it.

You need to spend time with people to pick up on it.

I'm from UK and very good at english accents.

My next door neighbour speaks greek to his wife and kids, but I didn't think he 'looked' cypriot. My hubby thought I was barmy. (nowt new ther then!)

Six months down the line, we find out he's east european.

You can just tell.

Ah! Pink is for girls! Blue for boys. At least it used to be so. I agree of course, but some people think they have an "interpretation file" in the back of their heads they think works and evidently it does sometimes. Of course it does seem fairly easy to pick out Americans on holiday!!!

Dear IcyNoAngel, I'm afraid it's a sociological matter (or problem). Cypriots grow up brainwashed (by their cypriot parents) believing that everything and everyone who is not cypriot is inferior - that's just how it is. Since I am studying sociology i try my best to be as open-minded as i can as not be prejudice or racist (otherwise it would be ironic) but, unfortunately, i still somehow keep a distance whenever i meet a foreign guy, till he proves he is worth it (for instance: having a nice personality, brains, etc.) - call me a hypocrite, what can i say...
Yeah Whatever!
